It is not illegal to lie to the police, unless they are FBI. It is stupid and will probably get you targeted, but there is no crime against it. You don't perjure yourself unless you are under oath.

This should be HAMMERED by every defense attorney in every criminal trial!
Credibility of the witness, the witness being a habitual liar in a uniform. It is part of their modus operandi, lie. The jury should be reminded throughout the trial, cops lie, period.
See a cop? You're looking at a liar! Liar's cannot be trusted. Lying is what they do, what they are. The words, expressions, body language, all lies. If it is a cop, it is a lie in physical form.

I lied to my neighbors kids once to get the sunglasses they stole back.
Knock, knock.
You guys see anyone near my car?
No.
Thanks. That's OK. I have it recorded and will just give the tape to the police when they get here.
I go back inside. Strangely enough, I find my sunglasses on my front porch. I didn't have any video of the event. I am such a liar. I feel awful

I had a friend that almost went to prison due to talking too much. If he had just asked for a lawyer and kept his mouth shut they would have never gotten anything on him. They lied to him and even told him if the undercover cops had to get on the witness stand they would lie to convict him.
So you are confirming that you believe criminals should be able to get away with their crimes unless they screw up in some way during their coverup.
gotcha.
That is what is wrong with America today.
If you didn't murder your girlfriend, there is not a chance in hell that the 'popo' can lie to you and make your confess details that prove you did it.
I got no sympathy for such nonsense.

That's why you don't say anything to a cop/detective. Just say "I want an attorney", nothing else.

Good grief - you people are insane. I don't understand how you can reach maturity with such screwed up mental processes.
maybe you just haven't matured yet.
And if your car is stolen, or your parents murdered, call the nearest university for a group of SJWs to come over and give you some hugs. Don't dare call the lying police scum.
Dysfunction is moving from the ghettos into the 'new normal' scene.

If you are guilty - that is good advice from a selfish standpoint. Forget the crime, focus on the process of solving it and put as much interference as possible in the hopes that some inperfection will get you free.
If you are not guilty, you are just bogging down what would be a more rapid solution of the crime. If you didn't do the crime, why would you act as if you did? Don't you realize that if you act guilty, the police will have to expend resources that could be better used in pursuit of the 'real' criminal???
Nah - you don't give a shite. You just want to skate. You must be a very frequent violator of the law to be so adamant about how to get away with it.
screw you and others who engage in the circle-jerk on a routine basis.

No, it's not right.
This is one reason why if ever I am invited in for questioning at their place I'll immediately request an attorney.

Pretty stupid considering things in the OP are how innocent people can get railroaded by corrupt pigs.

CB, if the government was only interested in enforcing the classics (murder, rape, theft) then I'm with you.
The trouble is, we have a myriad of uncountable and unknown "gotcha" laws that people violate every day without even knowing it.
Sure, if I didn't kill anyone I would be happy to talk, if killing was the only issue being addressed.
But now I have to be concerned that I let you, a good friend, have one of my Valiums the other day when you were stressed out.
Or that I transported a water hyacinth plant unknowingly on my boat.
Or that I plowed a field that I have been farming for generations before getting a permit.
Oh, and the tax code. It is stacked floor to ceiling and no one knows everything in it.
It's a virtual certainly that everyone has violated at least one provision of it.

This is why if you ever find yourself in a police interrogation you don't say a fricking word without a lawyer present.
Just watch the Making a Murderer documentary and see what those shite heel detectives did to that kid.

Only idiots speak to the police without a lawyer.
This is the best video on shutting the hell up with police.

There are countless examples of people being railroaded in the judicial system. It's not my fault cops and ADs in the past destroyed people's lives, but I have the right to shut the hell up so I don't get my life ruined too.

This is a pretty tired point of view. You don't have to do anything worthy of trouble to get in trouble. Ask the soviet serfs whose only crime was producing too much food for their families.

But if a witness or suspect gives false or misleading statements, it spells more charges.
False.
You can only perjure yourself under oath. It's the same for police. They can be charged with perjury but only if the false statement is made under oath.

You won't be committing perjury but it is a crime to lie to a federal agent!
So yes it can lead to more charges but they won't be perjury.
