what took you so long to finally quit?

i love smoking. it's awesome. i don't mind the smell (i don't smoke inside, i mean of actual smoke) and have liked it since i was a little kid. it is the only thing in life that never lets you down. nicotine is a weird drug in that it can calm you down or give you a jump

when i'm durnk, my inhibitions are lowered and my body associates alcohol with smoking. it's also my "enjoy yourself" time

i mainly quit for ideological reasons (like this thread)

I'm pulling for you man.

I saw my dad struggle with it for a while. Eventually enough was enough. Don't give up!

There are three main reasons I want to quit.

1. The social stigma.

2. It's fricking expensive.

3. Health, not really the lung cancer part although I know i should worry about that, but I have to run a lot in the military and it affects me a lot more now than it did when I was 19.

I smoked off and on for almost 20 years. Mr. Pinecone and I quit in January.

I highly recommend Chantix.

Best of luck

GeauxxxTigers23... DO IT! I think the best thing one can do to help quitting is start heavy exercising. It will greatly increase your motivational feedback.

What helped me was cycling. I realized just how much it was hurting my performance. I'd go out and (like SFP) have a moment of weakness... followed by feeling like absolute isht on the bike the next day, and get get dropped right out the back of the pack. Couldn't help but conclude "that was stupid"...

You can do it!

Oh yea, if you lead an active lifestyle, you should run as far away from cigarettes as you can (pun intended). The older you get, the bigger the effect it will have on you.

smoking really never affected my physical performance. once i got my wind back (i mean like after a few weeks of playing ball, for instance), i was a beast. and this is smoking 2-3 cigs B2B on the way and lighting up as soon as i was done

there used to be an OT bball game and they can tell you the stories (when EZE played was well before i was in bball shape, iirc, so don't listen to him). i remember the first time people saw me light up after playing and they were like

Some of the best cigarettes I've ever had were after a hard run or during a break on a 25 mile ruck March.

I smoke tobacco everyday just that I smoke high quality pipe tobacco and not cigarettes. Cigarettes are the cheapest nastiest type of tobacco there is.

Is there a difference health wise?

Probably. With pipe tobacco you don't have to inhale the smoke deep into your lungs. You just buff on it and the nicotine is absorbed in through the saliva in your mouth.

I don't really worry about the health risks though I don't plan on living to an old age anyway.

I don't know how true it is but I've always heard that it's the additives in most popular brands of cigarettes that are the more toxic, cancer causing components. Allegedly, higher quality tobacco has less of that but still has tar which is probably just as bad. But nicotine IS very addicting.

I don't partake very often but I do love a good cigar.

Med student starts smoking to deal with stress of medical school.

I don't think you're learning all the things they're trying to teach you bro.

Doesn't make much sense, I know.

I've just been craving something, and I can't drink while studying.

I have never smoked a cigarette or marijuana. Don't like being around smoke. But it taught me a lesson about the reliability of lie detectors and why they are not allowed in court. Took a test for a job long ago.

Q: Have you ever smoked marijuana?
Me: No
Result: Lie

Q: Admitting that you smoked marijuana will not exclude you from this job. Have you?
Me: No, If I said yes I'd be lying.
Result: Lie

I got the job. Didn't like it and quit. But I'll never forget the fear of that machine making a more serious mistake.

Q: Zach, did you kill Jean Benet Ramsey?
Me: No.
Result: Lie

At the risk of inccuring the wrath of the board, may I ask what a BDM is? I googled but did not see anything that fit the context of this thread.

Thanks ... and be gentle, folks.
