So for us independents where can we go to get the real news?

For a quick review of "what's happening" any of them will do. Just don't believe the spin.

To understand an issue in depth...well we live in the internet age.

My tips:
1. Read multiple sources and extrapolate the truth
2. Almost all the source documentation for various stories are online: crime states, unemployment, whatever scientific study is getting horribly distorted, etc. Do that enough at the start, and you will get a sense for when a story is "stretching" the truth.

Oh he understands the meaning exactly.

Anyone who pretends fox isn't extreme right is well blind AND stupid.

...Jazzy is right the international news services do a far better job at being neutral then any American news service when it comes to reporting US News.

Al Jazeera has the most unbiased news regarding US stories.

Same. I watch zero television news.

My main sources of news are the poli board for day to day stuff and The Economist.

Dude, you watch the opinion shows like Hannity, Kelly, etc. and think that is news then you are really naive. Most of that place is right 'leaning' but not extreme right. Bret Baier is a good place to get news on FOX. And like someone mentioned earlier, you are so used to leftist news channels that FOX 'appears' extreme right to you. Besides, you admit to voting for Nader. Hmmmphh! Have a great day.

BTW, my dad used to say you can't fix stupid. Or something like that.....

Not even close, they are center right at best if you throw out the hack opinion shows like Hannity. Nothing and I mean nothing I have ever watched comes close to being right slanted as much as MSNBC is slanted left, everybody on that channel is a communist.

The straight news coverage on Fox is pretty much down the middle. The commentary is skewed way right, especially the single host shows - the panels tend to have some balance, and real liberals too (Williams and Beckel already mentioned), and not some milquetoast, pretend conservative like "Morning Joe" on MSNBC.

Honestly, MSNBC is unwatchable, as demonstrated by their ratings. Fox, even if you strongly dislike their opinion shows, is more entertaining and a better news product overall - as demonstrated by their ratings.

CNN used to be MSNBC - before Fox - they have tried to move to the middle, and I find their news coverage much more watchable now. However, they appear to be in a death spiral, although March numbers were up.

Whoever thinks that ABC, NBC and CBS are "in the middle" is an old world liberal, IMHO - those news divisions stopped pretending during the Reagan administration.

How big of a hack must one be to be that blind?

Thanks for the laughs poli board

Fox news coverage isn't skewed extremely to the right. I'll concede right-leaning, but as close to the middle as any straight news coverage by any organization based in the United States.

The perception is clouded by their opinion shows, which, as I have indicated, are predominantly right (to extreme right), although the panels typically have legitimate liberal balance.

For example, Shep Smith's programs just might be the best hard news hour in all of cable news.

Perhaps Fox's news snippets are not as skewed as the rest of it. The problem is their programing has very little news. The vast majority or the airtime is an anti-obama circle jerk. I used to watch fox but the fact is they have swung waaay right in the last few years. Look at Hannity, he used to be pretty good esp. back when he did han&combs. He is worse than Nancy Grace these days.

Actual Fox News is ok but I agree that the rest of it has taken a HARD turn right. I prefer to read their news articles and then search the web for articles on the same topic to get a fuller picture.I don't watch any tv news coverage at all.

I've never checked out Al Jazeera Intl and will check it out.

always amazes me that Fox is "extreme right" because their infotainment is but cnn is balanced even though their infotainment is as left as Fox's is right

you're a smart guy normally. But I have a hard time believing that you actually believe this.

Fox news is so hard core right it hurts to watch at times. And I am not talking about just the opinion shows...those guys are off the rails. I do agree that CNN is working hard to get back to the middle but for them it might be too little too late.

I'll stick to international news services for down the middle reporting.
