It seems that its pretty universally agreed that last nights speech was a home run for Trump. No doubt about it he played the populist fiddle to perfection which is what resonated strongly in the general election. That hasn't changed and I think at this time most every American likes hearing America First. This is born out by the post speech polling.

The common sentiment in the speech thread last night is that dems should love what Trump is saying. Trump paid lip service to the national debt, but then proceeded to lay out massive infrastructure stimulus, keeping prexisting conditions, no mention of meaningful entitlement cuts, increased military spending, tax cuts for everyone(to a varying degree). In short, a whole lot of spending with no cuts to balance.

This brings me to my point, where ARE all the conservatives who used to post here because, aside from some things on immigration, I didn't hear a whole lot in this speech that wouldn't have been at home in a speech delivered by a democrat. It seems like an endorsement from Van fricking Jones should have some people concerned.

Wreck shite like appointing a shite AG? Or like compiling the debt with a lack of entitlement cuts and increased military spending?

Well maybe if the Democrats stopped calling everyone sexist and racist and stopped shoving social change on us, we would vote Democrat.
Of course now it doesn't matter, because Trumpism reigns and Trump created a new blueprint for American politics.

In fairness, he read words from a Teleprompter; something most Trumpkins bitched about incessantly during the Obama administration.

If he can go 2 weeks without shitting the bed, you may have something. You might want hold off though. A new round of tweets aimed at some Hollywood personality is probably just around the corner.

He's not a conservative. A dem would have mentioned racism, sexism, and inequality a hundred times though.

Ding Ding Ding

And THAT is what is driving Democrats batty.

He's co-opted their message minus the "because whitey sucks" part of it. He's replaced "because whitey sucks" with, "because I represent AMERICANS".

But yeah, other than that, he's kinda liberal on many issues.

I'm conservative.

Far more conservative than Trump.

I don't support him because of his economic policies.

I support him almost entirely because he's fricking blowing up the identity politics game which, in my view, is the single greatest threat to America going forward.

I'd rather he did it while being a conservative. But, ya take it where you can get it.

I guess when you compare it to his other speeches which have set the bar so low, sure. But I've seen plenty of criticism over it, so I don't think it's universally seen as a home run.

I think to many Dems, there is a wait and see approach. Many probably do agree with some of what he's advocated, but his actions so far have been quite the opposite.

quote:

massive infrastructure stimulus

He also called it a public-private partnership which is just code for massive corruption and graft.

What do you think the stimulus of 2009 was?

Private investment would be better managed than public

I knew damn well who I was voting for in Trump when I wanted Hillary Clinton defeated and to save the Supreme Court. I've made my peace with it. It is what it is.

Trump is basically a 1950-60s democrat but the thing is that he's way more conservative than the past few decades of the democrat party and has a lot of common ground with todays GOP and while they will not get everything they want out of each other, they will have a good working relationship and come to a lot of compromises and hopefully the results will be good for America.

1/3 became Trumpkins, 1/3 are Libertarians who still post here sometimes lauding Trump and sometimes deriding him, and 1/3 left the board due to the Trumpkins becoming insufferable with their overuse of the word "cuck". When they started trying to say that Rand Paul was an establishment cuck, that pretty much was the last straw for many.
