When/How do we start punishing parents for disasterous parenting?

Obesity is so common kids don't even know they're obese anymore

quote:

Among children and teens who were actually designated by the CDC as overweight — or between the 85th and 95th percentiles on the — 76 percent thought they were "about right"; about 23 percent said they were overweight. Among obese kids and teens (those in the 95th percentile and higher on the chart), roughly 42 percent thought they were OK weightwise, while 57 percent thought they were in the "overweight" category. Boys, younger kids and children from poorer families were more likely to misperceive their status.

this is child abuse

and this is one very easy target. a recurring theme in discussing people of lesser/poor culture is this double argument that develops from those defending bad decision makers/parents.

1. we cannot blame the children who exhibit poor behavior due to cultural influences, from their parents

2. we will not blame the parents or take steps to punish them for the resulting behavior found in #1

it's SOMEBODY'S fault. at SOME point we have to assign blame so that we can attempt correcting the poor behavior(s)

obesity is a low-hanging fruit. this is not only an epidemic, it is occurring amongst all races and it is easily avoided by simple changes in behavior starting a long time before the crisis appears. sadly, it will also be passed down again and again

this argument applies to pretty much all societal ills, from cultures that have destroyed their local education systems to those that engage in violent crime, etc etc.

i really want to know a proposed plan from our defenders of BDMs on the board

Having them spayed or neutered would be a good start.

that's a bit extreme

having kids that you can't afford is another aspect of being a BDM, though

In my world, prospective parents would be required to get parenting licenses.

I wish I knew

I always use my neighbors in these types of topics. They have a 10 year old boy that is pushing 250-300 lbs. He is horrendously fat. The mom and dad are obese as well. The dad brings home either Taco Bell or BK every single night. I've witnessed the boy trying to jump rope in their driveway while crying and slapping himself in the face while yelling "you're too fat!" over and over again.

I fricking hate his parents. They are fricking killing their own child because they are lazy pieces of shite. The kid is always walking around the yard double fisting poptarts.

I've brought them veggies from my garden before but I'm pretty sure they just threw them away. That or fried them.

well to be fair, i did just learn that our bodies reject all veggies that they're not familiar with

it's an evolutionary trait that helped us avoid eating poisonous plants in our past

Harvest the fat and make a biofuel out of it.

The kid is huge. He is one of the fattest kids I've ever seen.

And both the parents work in the medical field. They have to see how obesity affects people everyday. I guess they are just too lazy to care.

They have a chair in their backyard that has been knocked over since I moved into our house 3 years ago. The dad just mows around it.

I absolutely despise big government, but shite, we would do something if a parent was beating a child to death, right? This is just a slower form.

You'd be opening pandora's box with that argument.

I understand the message you're saying, but it's going to be used to go after other things. I know I saw plenty of kids doing fricked up things to themselves after their parents divorced, is that going to be considered disastrous parenting?

it doesn't have to be a state solution

socially ostracizing and criticizing is a possible avenue. we've gone WAY the opposite way. shame has disappeared from our society and pride has been dissolved. the obesity shite is quite literally the icing on the cake

How many of the insanely fat fricks are already ostracized though? Yes, fatties have support groups, but it's not like you see them going to places and not having people snicker around them because they look like beached whales.

Yea I think SFP wants us to point and ridicule them and call them disgusting POS whenever we see them in public.

What are you proposing?

for many years i've proposed parents losing social welfare benefits if their child is a truant or disruptive in school

same could apply to all the social ills (criminal activity, drug usage, obesity, etc)

then the question becomes what risky behavior/bad decision making should be included

*ETA: my ultimate solution is the elimination of the nanny state, but this is a step towards that
