I think sportscasters handle sports a helluva lot better than they handle political issues. Most people don't tune into Monday Night Football to hear someone get on their political soapbox.

No matter what Costas' political affiliation and views are, he needs to keep his politics away from his sports. They absolutely do not need to be mixed up.

Yep, I don't want to hear any right wing or left wing views while watching sports. The Olympics are a big different than MNF though.

Hypocrites? Look in the mirror, it's been right-wingers, not lefties who have been egging Obama on about confronting Putin.
Which sporting event was that happening at?

Everyone is ENTITLED to give their views. It's America after all. That said, it really does get boorish, if the sportscaster in question doesn't really carefully pick his spots. And I think that most people have a reasonable expectation that they can escape the Culture Wars for a couple hours when they watch sports. I find myself turning the channel. I mean , do we really want Fox and Bill O'Reilly in 2016 going off (the spin stops here) on the Brazilians for all their social problems? Can't we just watch the athletes and get away from The Chattering Class Assholery for a while?

This times a 1000

frick Costas I am watching sports for a reason. To get away from the madness for a while. I don't give a frick what his views on the second amendment are. I certainly don't want to hear him spout off about Newtown,Ct. He is a clown.

In bizarro world if someone like Costas would spew right wing opinions, people like VOR would all be like "WTF is this? frick that guy."

That would be awesome.

The Olympics is a global event that has always brought a lot of attention to social and political climates of the host. The Olympics is definitely more than just sports.

Being on NBC, I'm sure Costas has lefty opinions. Costas would be out of line if he asked Roger Goodell pointed politically charged questions at the Super Bowl. However, I encourage this shite at the Olympics.

Occasionally?

Dude is constantly using his success in sports media as a platform for his personal political and moral beliefs.

What? You don't find such a drastic situation in the Ukraine during a Russian Olympics to be highly topical and/or of relevance?

I see far more 'trashing' of this country here & on Rightwing blogs/radio with their doom & gloom attitudes /xenophobia.

That's not the subject of this thread. This is about Costas using his position in the sports industry as a political platform to spew his leftist bullshite.

Bob Costas is a man who clearly thinks very highly of himself and therefore is of the belief that people deserve to hear his brilliant insights regardless of his medium. I am not surprised.

costas is just another douche liberal who thinks he is "courageous" for bringing up liberal talking points bullshite that 99% of the pop culture dimwits who are considered his peers also parrot every chance they get.

Bashing Russia because they don't like cocksuckers is really brave and hardhitting Bob. Maybe you can find a group of libs to dole out an award to you.

I probably agree with Costas more than I disagree with him, but agree with you for the most part. Costas is in sports which is part of the entertainment industry. Entertainers should avoid politics since they will inevitably alienate half the people they're speaking to. I see this the same as the Rush Limbaugh controversy when he did his stint as ESPN. On his radio show, Limbaugh is speaking to people who tune in for his political views, but folks don't tune into ESPN for either conservative or liberal political views. Limbaugh didn't understand that he was supposed to take his political hat at the door whenever he walked in the ESPN studio. There are some folks who wear both political and entertainment hats, but they don't try to wear both at the same time. For example, Ed Rendell is a democratic mayor and governor and MSNBC contributor who is also a post-game radio analyst for the Eagles football team. I would suggest that if Costas wants to do politics, he should ask MSNBC to give him a weekend show and then folks will tune in expecting to hear his political views. Until then, he should avoid trying to wear both entertainment hats and political hats at the same time.

That's your opinion chief. Trust me when I say this, there are plenty who hate when he does a telecast, me being one of them. And I personally didn't know what his political affiliation was before last year...

They shove that guy down our throats. I have watched games I was not interested in because of the announcers covering. I've never done that to hear him..
