LOL, yeah, cuz it would be so much more productive if we had electric tractors and combines.

Sheesh, what a dumb article.

Honestly, if there were a true collapse, I believe within two weeks smaller nations would start to pop up, a la collapse of Yugoslavia.

I would go to North Louisiana where all my family lives. For all of you that need the knowledge to grow food and other survival skills the Foxfire series of books were written in the seventies and should still be available.

Threads like this are part of the reason why Democrats are able to continue to win elections.

Mmmm huh...and Democrats winning elections are the reason for smart folk anticipating an economic collapse and discussing it in "threads like this".

Democrats routinely tell the electorate that conservatives/republicans are homophobic, racist, ignorant yokels who cling to their bibles, guns and survivalist fantasies.

Stuff like this just helps make their case. Everytime a "conservative" talks about how awesome their survival bunker will be when American society collapses, the liberals count it as a win. And I hate it.

The economy has collapsed before and we didnt resort to animalistic weapons hoarding instinct. The nation itself isnt collapsing anytime soon, so its a moot point.

I imagine some of you frequently masturbate to Red Dawn.

Massive moonshine production, leading to the formation of a self-sufficient fiefdom that wars with surrounding city-states.

while everyone in the U.S. has been arguing over left vs right bullchyt I've been busy getting 3 acres of garden in shape for food production. fyi - it takes about 3 years to get undeveloped land in good shape to grow food - also own a few cattle and horses

i don't think country will collapse but any kind of major event (pandemic, etc) would require self sufficiency for 3 to 6 months, maybe less if you're lucky

how long you think the deer population lasts when there isn't a hunting season? Deer would be the next carrier pidgeon.

I took a break from this, for my own sake.. but I agree... it won't resort to a complete collapse. But a great depression, greater than the first is very possible... Back then there were less people and more of them knew how to fend for themselves.. Today a lot of people don't know how to get food from anything but a store. People laugh and say, the government will never collapse.. bullshite.. the soviet union did. The Romans did, so many others have... Our government and country is not immortal just cause we think it is.

Purchase the book, Encyclopedia of Country Living, by Carla Emery. It teaches you step by step how to do everything:

Going to buy, does it teach you how to make moonshine? I know enough about it I could ~probably figure it out.. but I want books... and the good ones like this.

ETA: On second thought I know enough about this... I need to spend the money on the tools and stuff to do it more.

1500 hundred acres in the middle of nowhere at the base of a mountain. On a fairly large freshwater lake fed by a river combined with over a dozen springs throughout the property. Add into that the small arsenal our family owns. As well as a fairly substantial amount of fuel, tractors, atvs, and trucks, also a bulldozer and roadgrader. Along with the 300 head of cattle, 25 horses, chickens, and deer on the land. I think we will get by juuuuuust fine.

Oh and there is only two ways in, both of which can be covered from the same vantage point. One of them you can actually cover for 3/4 of a mile before they get to the woods. We are golden.

Ftr, I own none of it. It's my grandfather and uncle's property.

Gold and AR-15's ought to get me a head start.

My brother hid $50,000 cash after Obama got elected cause he thought he might need it when the chaos ensues.

Not in Alabama. The population is so overgrown that they have been doing a doe a day limit for the entire hunting season the past couple years.

Yeah, if you aren't greedy and waste not want not... deer are everywhere.. they are becoming a bit of a pain in the butt and aren't even afraid of humans much anymore.. but I love in these discussions how everyone forgets fishing... A gun isn't the only way to get meat easily.

The biggest problem with surviving will be people... not living off the land, but fighting others off.. but like I said I think it will be more of a great depression, not true apocalyptic setting. Laws will still be around, just much looser.
