If it actually went peacefully, why not just do it? Obviously that can't and won't happen, though.

I wonder why people who are so serious about this don't move to Puerto Rico or Guam just to test the waters. Heck, move to another country of your choice but don't give up citizenship.

1. The people of the USA created the Union (read the very first thought in the US Constitution) and only the people of the USA can break that Union apart. One state simply cannot secede or leave by its own volition.

2. IF several states TRIED to secede, that movement would be forcibly stopped relatively quickly. Whoever is POTUS at that point won't make the same error our most incompetent POTUS, James Buchanan did in Dec., 1860).

3. And, those of us who would oppose secession in states most likely to secede (read: Deep South) would not let an attempt to secede go smoothly.

I'm for it, I guess. It doesn't really matter if people are just going to secede and form another statist government, though.

There is a peaceful model.

The succession of the republics from the former Soviet Union.

As the U.S. spirals to eventual financial collapse, this is how I envision it will happen.

Leaving the US? Hmmm, that's tough. I honestly don't know. I couldn't imagine. Maybe police detention for expressing a political opinion? I'm honestly having trouble coming up with a scenario

How about IRS punishment for expressing an opinion? How about the DOJ (Rosen/Fox) targeting political opposition, I.e., "expressing a political opinion".

Let us know when you're packing the bags, BD...and we'll throw a poli-board roast/lamentation for your departure.

While I generally like all the open topics here...

Hillary winning?

Hillary winning in a democratic election would cause people to be in favor of secession?

Secession is a ridiculous notion. And there is no way in hell the US would let a state secede peacefully.

Probably. But would that keep you from wanting to do so? What would? That's my real question.
