When black crime stays the same or increases.
When black graduation rates stay the same or drop.
When black income levels stay the same or drop.
When black poverty levels stay the same or increase.
When the numbers of black children born out of wedlock raised by momma and grandma stay the same or increase etc.

But hey we erased history so that's great.

Was the statue functioning as a reminder that the south was racist, wrong, backwards, and got their butts whipped?

certainly it can be viewed as such, if that's your take, I can't wait to see how successful the afro community will be now that the symbols of racial oppression have been removed

No we didn't.

Was history of Saddam Hussein erased when his statue was torn down? No. Stalin? No.

This is a dumb argument.

Seems like a dumb expectation..

Removing a statue somehow improves or makes right decades of systemic racism?

OK, You've convinced me what it will not do, can you now tell me what it WILL DO?

I say it will DO NOTHING. Nothing but waste tax dollars and deflect efforts from our pressing issues.

You think that's what they'll hear in a century or two, when nobody gives a shite whether all the MLK stuff stays or goes?

Yeah, me neither.

I think many cities put a lot of tax money towards improving perception or aesthetics. Especially successful cities.

Just the press release will probably result in more revenue than it costs to tear it down.

You're correct. Removing these statues will not do anything to correct the ills of the past. Nor will it benefit anyone going forward. Removing them does cost money, not sure maybe it was privately donated. Most of all, removing them was another reminder to blacks that they were once oppressed, just in case they forgot. I'd bet my house that 90% of the city didn't know anything about these statues except for Lee Circle before Mitch made it an issue. But leave it to Mitch to make sure blacks are reminded of their oppression.

We won't be able to celebrate our proud Civil War history.... You know, the one in which the Union occupied New Orleans mostly without a fight and stayed for the rest of the war. The one in which more Union troops died at the hands of New Orleans whores than at the hands of the proud men of the Cahn-feder-ah-cee.

Oh, what will we DO now Rhett Butler? How will we go on??

The was never the point of taking the statues down. Quit being ridiculous and realize that if you were a black person you may see the statues different than you yourself do.

Also, I am genuinely curious if you even live in the city?

I get all that, but the question is what will be the response from Nawlins regarding the statues if/when tourism declines.

So, what are they doing with the statues now? Surely they won't destroy them.

True. It was just another political tool for the left. Thanks for the reminder.

Good on them to realize this after Mitch pointed it out. LOL

Who cares? He has an opinion, just like you do.

Your team "won". Now, go solve the real issues that plague the city.

Oh wait, your team "can't" do that. If so you may not win another election.

systemic racism
Yeah, that must be why African immigrants shoot right past the natives in terms of success. Systemic racism.

The "but I don't get it. we tore down the statues. why are they still fricking animals?' jokes will never end.

Never end.

The response from the rest of the state needs to be a boycott of New Orleans.

Frick off if you don't live in New Orleans. What, did your family used to vacation to the statue and pray in front of it?

The pro statue crowd is absolutely ridiculous, who gives a shite. It was on city land, the city voted to take it down, groups sued and appealed and lost on all legal front, so its coming down. Go cry in your safe space, or hey maybe buy the statues and some land at set them up on your own private land for people to come see them.

THIS IS HOW AMERICA WORKS
