Try to pry your lips off President Dreamy's arse.

He goes to West Point and promises the terrorist $5 million in his commencement speech. What a 'leader'.

He is a waste of carbon atoms and oxygen.

i actually agree with this and felt the same way when i saw what W went through, i.e. proposing to rename a sewer lift station after him.

serious question, has it always been like that? i was a kid during the reagan and bush 1 years and a teenager during the clinton years and really didnt pay attention.

Predicable response. Some of you on here are so consumed with anger and bitterness towards Obama....and look I'm not saying I think he's a good President or anything because I don't....but you're so consumed by this stuff that's being pumped out to you by the right wing media that you've completely lost any sense of decency. It makes this board largely unreadable.

You can have your political opinions and that's fine, but there was a time in this country when people, especially at a place like West Point, would give proper respect for the office. It's the correct and patriotic thing to do. But in today's society people are more concerned with their "side" or their views than they are their country and this thread is a prime example. It's embarrassing.
I'll agree w/ you in regards to the West Point individuals. Obama is their CiC whether they like it or not. They signed up for the military and all that it entails. They should show him their respect.

As for everyone else in our society, personally, I try to show everyone respect up until the point I deem they don't deserve it anymore. I don't care for those elected to governmental positions as individuals and those feelings of distrust and general dislike extends to their positions as well.

First DS, they did nothing to disrespect him nor the office. Not standing up and cheering every word is not a lack of respect. Standing up and booing would be.

I voted for Bush... 2 times. I stood up and voiced my opinion against what he did that I disagreed with. I don't need any media to formulate my opinion on any action taken by anybody anywhere at anytime.

Does respect mean they stand and cheer every comment?

Was it disrespect to not stand up and cheer?

I wasn't necessarily talking to any one person, just a trend that's existed on here for years at this point. And it's not just contained to this board:

No. I didn't watch the video so I assumed it was something worse than that.

I would find it inappropriate if they cheered every comment.

It would be disrespectful if they didn't at least clap at the beginning and end.

You need to stop posting and take a class in American History, or read some books. Putting personal politics over country is as old as the republic.

Group think and aggressiveness towards the opposition has appeared to become more prevalent, mainly, IMO, due to the easy access to the internet and global communications compared to any other time in human history.

It is the same situation with gun crimes. People believe crime is more rampant now than ever before due to the easy ability of news access, despite the fact that statistics have been in a steady decline and have decreased to some of the lowest levels since the 70s, and 60s in some cases.

Now, this board is heavily right leaning. That is blatantly obvious. Of course you will get a majority of right leaning anger and aggressiveness. The same could be said for DU and other majority left leaning boards.

Currently, there is nothing that can be done about it. Period.

I believe they afforded the president that much.

Not much of anything else.

Then, I don't believe there was anything inappropriate or "ice" related.

They afforded him the respect demanded by his position as their CiC.

I didn't see the whole video, but I would assume the actual cadets showed him proper respect...standing at attention as he walked in, dismissed to sit, etc...they probably aren't in any position to approve or disapprove just based on their protocols. A president, a general, a famous fighter from a previous generation - there are polite and respectful procedures for pretty much the same thing (light applause, standing at attention at certain times, whatever). The cadets were probably thinking about getting drunk and laid that night anyway after that four year skullcrusher.

I think the issue was more with the other attendees...parents, relatives, friends, etc.

well okay but with this kind of mentality, you're no better than the people on the left that you claim to despise so much.

They say the sign of intelligence is to be able to hold two competing thoughts in one's mind at the same time.

And when did I ever state that I despise the left so much?
