Hunters - what kind of bounty would make it worth your time to go out with some night vision goggles and kill invasive hogs?

I'm considering getting into that - having not hunted very much in my younger years.

Trapping is more economical and effective - you had the board's expert in the field (Bleeding Purple) actually in the thread. He's forgotten more about killing hogs than most of us will ever know.

Just don't shoot at stuff that isn't wild game legally in season. Duh. And if you do and someone dies how about you go to prison?

Are you so stupid that you believe a sign encouraging the use of common sense some how absolves a hunter for death of another human?

Are you being intentionally inflammatory (like any of us don't know the answer) or are you truly ignorant about firearms and ballistics? Is it too hard to understand that even in the situation of a correctly placed shot in the vitals of the targeted legal animal, that the bullet may exit that animal in an unpredictable path? Is it too difficult to conceive that a hiker straying off trail wearing earth tone colors would be hard to see or even totally obscured by dense non bullet proof brush in the woods? Or that same hiker may find themselves beyond but in line with a hunters intended and clearly visible target?

When you go swimming in the ocean are there signs that say "be careful - a fisherman might mistake you for a whale and harpoon your arse!"
Have you never seen signs near marinas that say NO SWIMMING? those are there to protect both the swimmers and the boat owners who may unintentionally hit a swimmer with their boat while launching. However, in most cases those signs are posted on public waterways where swimmers have every right to swim where they want as long as they access that location from the water not the bank.

if a park explicitly discourages other users to avoid trails, wear orange, or take other measures specifically to avoid hunters and to avoid being shot, that accommodates hunters at the expense of other trail users.

Just as much as the trails being there accommodate trail users more than hunters. No Ethical hunter would set up a stand location where a trail, road, or potential human would be down range of his/her intended shot. Thus hunters must choose to hunt away from trails, roads, buildings, and other human interaction effectively limiting the usable area of the parks for hunting. Yet, hunters are not asking for the trails to be removed or all access to be restricted during season.

It is just a sign imploring common sense and safety. Believe it or not legal firearms owners and more so hunters are generally more safety conscious around firearms than those that live if fear of them.

Intelligent hunters don't.

How many hikers have been killed on this trail by hunters?

Why would someone who can't see shoot a gun at something he can't identify in a public forest where hikers and other hunters are likely present?

Because some people refuse to acknowledge their limitations.

Not the good ones. Someone can be experienced at what they are doing and still be an a-hole (see: Cam Newton). Most hunters won't shoot at something unless they know without a doubt what they are shooting at. All it takes is one over-eager a-hole though and suddenly anti-firearm wingnuts are cramping up as they run to the nearest camera to piss and moan.

The vast majority of hunters are responsible and have been trained never to shoot unless you can clearly identify their target and the sight line behind their target. The latter is where the warning not to wear neutrals becomes important to the average hunter.

And as far as land goes, most state owned parks are paid for by a surtax on hunting and fishing equipment and license sales. The hunters are paying more for the right to be there. Way to many hikers/cyclist forget that they are funded by the people they are complaining about.
