A liberal-funded watchdog group filed a lawsuit Monday against President Donald Trump alleging that he is violating the Constitution by allowing his business to accept payments from foreign governments.

Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, or CREW, filed the lawsuit in the Southern District of New York and claims Trump is violating a clause in the Constitution that prohibits his businesses from receiving anything of value from foreign governments. Because Trump didn’t divest his businesses, the group claims he’s now receiving gifts from foreign governments via guests and events at his hotels, leases in his buildings and real estate deals abroad.

"When Trump the president sits down to negotiate trade deals with these countries, the American people will have no way of knowing whether he will also be thinking about the profits of Trump the businessman," the Washington-based organization said in a statement.

White House Director of Strategic Communications Hope Hicks directed inquiries to Trump attorney Sheri Dillon.

Hicks said in an email to the Associated Press: "She was very clear on this issue two weeks ago and nothing has changed; the president has no conflicts."

IMHO, This Liberal Watchdog Group that only watches Trump and the GOP will be bounced out of court quickly because they have no Standing to bring the action.

There was a proven quid pro quo in this one, in regard to donations, then a favorable action...Hmm...Did they file a lawsuit against CGI?

Standing
Venue
Political Question
Plaintiff has to get pass those three issues before the District Court will even look at the constitutional issues. Even if they win at the district level the judgment will likely be stayed pending an appeal. The appeal will then end up in the Supreme Court maybe 4-6 yrs from now. I don't think the USSC will rule in the plaintiff's favor.

Conclusion: waste of time

Fair, but I doubt Judicial Watch will do anything over Trump's potential conflicts. This is the world we live in now.

That organization has no standing, and they know it. The only reason for this lawsuit is for fame, publicity, and most importantly: donations.

Jill Stein gave the perfect example of how gullible and ruled by emotions the extreme left can be, and more importantly how to profit from it.

We learned from the Clinton era that a sitting U.S. President cannot be sued for actions occurring while president (that are related to the presidency). This dismissal should come swiftly. The group should also be hit for violating Rule 11.
