Lawsuit aims to cleanse federal regulations hampering washing machines, dishwashers

quote:

(The Center Square) – Twelve attorneys general filed an opening brief Friday in a lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) for changes made this year to energy and water efficiency standards for dishwashers and washing machines.

"These arbitrary washing machine regulations are unlawful, ineffective, and absolutely ridiculous," Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich, co-leader of a suit in the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals against the DOE and Secretary Jennifer Granholm, said in a statement. "They should be hung out to dry as soon as possible."

The DOE regulates energy efficiency and water conservation in products through the Energy Policy and Conservation Act (EPCA). In 2020, new rules were implemented after consumers complained dishwashers and washing machines ran poorly because of DOE regulations. Previous regulations required appliances to run slower to be more energy efficient. However, no energy was saved as consumers often ran their machines twice to attain adequate cleaning results.

There needs to be thousands of suits like this to counter the green assault.

Would love to see someone go after the ridiculous fuel mileage averages they have put in for the near future.

The manufacturers likely won't do it as they have invested so much in electric at this point.

That reminds me of the days of the 1 gallon per flush toilet. Instead of using 2 gallons of water, it took three flushes or more.

Kinda like Bill Clinton's water saving toilets... they wouldn't pull a turd out of the bowl with two flushes...

Is there anything the government touches that it doesn't frick up?

Someone should take them on for diesel trucks. I’d buy one immediately if I could get rid of the emissions bullshite.

It’s almost as if the private companies did research and development to determine the proper amount of water required for effectiveness. It’s not like companies design it to waste water for no reason

It would be nice to be able to purchase a real washing machine outside of a laundromat instead of these 12 month warranty playskool tubs they sell us

You need to buy a speed queen commercial residential or a maytag commercial residential. I was in the same boat, my samsung $1,000 set broke after 3 years. I said screw it and dropped $2,000 on a commercial speed queen set and never looked back. The speed queen washer is essential. Dryers are relatively easy to fix, washers are not.

I was in the same boat. Went through two, a samsung and an LG, set. Finally said F it and got the speed queens.

I don't really want to waste water, but I do want to use the proper amount required to wash a full load of clothes in less than 90 min. And when I say full load of clothes, I mean 1990's size loads not this BS new definition of "high capacity" size load with the F'd up HE detergent that leaves oil stains on clothes.

More than that. It shouldn't be limited to the EPA. They need to go after any government agency setting regulations as a workaround because they couldn't get them through congress. The DOL did that under Obama and is now about to do it again under Biden.

There is as much water on this planet as there was 10,000 years ago.

Today when I use the bathroom (or wash clothes or dishes) my used water leaves my house, goes to a waste water treatment plant, then is discharged into the Black Warrior River.

Many municipalities down stream from there draw that water out of the river, clean it and use it for their citizens. Then the process begins again.

True, but there are two things to consider: 1) the cost to treat water going into the the public supply and 2) Ground water aquifers are not quickly recharged by surface water.

One of several instances where Mike Judge took the piss out of this kind of thing.

He did entire episodes of King Of The Hill about low flow toilets and the Americans with Disabilities Act and how both were counter-productive due to being overly wasteful on the former and being extremely prone to abuse on the latter.

Had an HE washing machine and it was horrible. Didn't rinse the detergent out and sounded like a dying moose. What happened with light bulbs was bad enough but screwing up washing machines is just evil.
