It appears history confirms New York was named after the Duke of York who was a notorious slave trader back in the mid 1600's. Y'all need to get organized and let Cuomo and De Blahsio know this will not stand.
The name New York must be stricken from history!!
New York's name is derived from notorious slave trader.

I vote for Kwanza City.
Should the state be renamed as well or was it named after York in England?

IMO it's quite fitting to name a state with oppressive taxation rates after a slave trader

Rename it New Cuomo.

Rutgers is gonna have to go too! Named after another slave trader. ?? LINK …

Princeton has a history with slavery & the slave trade too. All these liberal institutions seem to have more than liberalism in common.

Some of the comments are great.

Let's rename New York as New Soros. The real purveyor of evil and social instability.

Let's cut out the BS and just call it New Somalia !

Since we're in the mood for renaming things, let's start with the Washington 'Redskins' by changing their name to the 'Foreskins' because of the di@#heads in D.C....

You would have to believe quite a few potentially black Americans died on those slave ships, I bet 20-30% of the slaves died on many of the trips from Africa to America, hell maybe more.

That would be a good name for a city in Florida.

In the 1680s the Company was transporting about 5,000 slaves a year across the Atlantic. Many were branded with the letters "DY", for its Governor, the Duke of York

So if you extrapolate that over the confederacy then add murdering 100's of thousands of US soldiers, maybe the duke of York point is stupid.

Ebbandflow just argued that it is okay to do really bad things to slaves as long as it's not in the hundred of thousands. Sounds like a racist excuse. You are a racist ebbandflow.
