Isn't there an Alabama board somewhere for you to discuss this?

Which doesn't mean shite and doesn't translate to statewide popularity. Surprising Tuscaloosa is eat up with a lot of university academic liberal types that love them some Maddox. That voting bloc, plus the AEA vote, plus the minority vote, plus the fact he does not go out of his way to piss off the business interests keeps him going. He could be mayor for life.
None of that will mean jack shite to the guy in Dothan or Andalusia or Florence that you are asking to cast a (D) vote for the first time since 1984.

The State of Alabama is not going to vote for a Democratic Governor in this day in age. People are wasting their money donating to a Democratic candidate in that state.

Maddox is a good guy and would be a good governor, but this state is so anti-Democrat right now that he has no chance.
I've said this before, Alabama needs a viable Democratic Party just for the sole reason of making the GOP candidates earn their position and preventing unqualified incumbents from just riding the GOP wave from one office to another. Winning a GOP Primary shouldn't guarantee an automatic 8 years in office. That's basically what happened with Bentley.

What happens if it comes down to Roy Moore vs Walt Maddox?

quote:The RNC could put up a literal dildo with an (R) behind its name, and it would beat a Democrat in Alabama. The Black belt and Birmingham don't have enough people to outvote the rest of the state which is staunchly conservative and Republican.
If the RNC puts up garbage they could be in trouble

Which is pretty much what I said later in my post. A lot of Alabama alumni around the state have been impressed with him though, so he does have some appeal outside of Tuscaloosa. It's still a long, tough road though, no question.

Tuscaloosa really isn't all that liberal. More liberal than say Huntsville? Maybe a little, but pretty negligible difference. Maddox won office for life with how he handled the 2011 tornado.
I lived in Tuscaloosa for many years and still know a lot of people there. Many of my Trump-voting, hardcore Republican friends from there sing the praises of Maddox. Granted, a lot of them know him personally, but many don't.

Most likely, but it still hasn't been officially announced. Technically, he could have this committee and then decide not to run.

Tuscaloosa is not a liberal town. But it's got a lot of liberals - especial the kind living on the government dime. Even the large local businesses feed off UA through construction and service contracts.
Lots of big gov loving peeps in TTown. And Maddox is the kind of guy that thinks that more government is the solution to every problem.

I knew that. I don't know how I got that confused. I'm an idiot.

Lol the GOP can run anyone they want and win. Too bad Walt has a D next to his name. He seems like a smart guy.

Moore is running for senate not Governor.

AEA union lackey stooge.

Dear Bama fans, please don't vote for this guy just because he has connections to Tuscaloosa and your beloved Tide. The last time you assholes did that, we ended up with that creepy Mr Burns looking bastard who couldn't keep his old dick in his pants.

He is running for Senate because it's voted for first. If/when he loses he will run for Gov.

Lot of ignorant Bama fans are going to struggle when Nick Saban endorses him. It will test their loyalty to the football program and their hatred of the Democratic party.

I have nothing against Maddox. Wish he wasnt beholden to unions.

Good point. That's probably a scenario where I see Maddox having a chance at winning. Would be interesting to say the least.

This is the truth. Bentley was a nobody and had no chance of winning until he appeared on the Finebaum show and regailed the audience with tales of being Coach Bryant's dermatologist. All it took was that tiny connection and Bama fans flocked to him. They are gonna do the same damn thing because Maddox is mayor of Tuscaloosa, home of the Tide.
