Wow...the defense lawyer was just on and stated this.

Tucker was beside himself: "is your soul ready to impugn the character of a 14yr old child that is stating she was raped?"

For those that don't know what this means: the lawyer was basically saying they are going to attack the 14 yr old's character as a slut or loose girl that consented to these acts.

Wow

That was a rough interview for that lawyer. It looked like one of those days where he was thinking ,man I really hate my job.

Awful.

It's bad enough that she can't go to school without being brutally violated. Now she gets to have her name dragged through the mud.

And without him zealously defending his client you don't have trial that meets constitutional scrutiny.

It's wrong morally but the lawyer is just doing his job. He is hired to help make the defendant not guilty, and this is the best way he can do that. He probably wont win, but the lawyer feels this is his best bet. On these grounds though I feel as if it's setting the defendant up for statutory rape.

It's not an argument I use often, but every once and a while I feel compelled to remind people that, were all of us to stand up and refuse to represent someone, that person must simply be released from jail. If we represent him and drag our feet? They get a new trial in post conviction.

In short, if you really think someone is the scum of the earth and guilty as sin, you should want them to have the best damned lawyer in the country, and for that lawyer to work their arse off giving that individual the best defense they possibly can.

That way, if the person is convicted, no court in the land will overturn it.

I would say hired to make sure the state proves its case.

In the other thread (the one I linked), we've apparently already established that 18 and 14 is kosher there.

Toddy won't like that I'm sure. To impugn a 14 yr old as a slut would be to imply they had sex with her, which is illegal no matter what.

Keep in mind, they are just posturing right now. They're trying to scare her and her family. They will probably settle for plea deal if they don't get out on bail and disappear. They have no defense.

Wow. It's as if some people are just learning how our legal system works.

I bet the op was one of the people ready to string up the first 3 black men he could find in a Denison Texas a week ago.

Absolutely not. I don't think the state wants to say the defendant is not guilty. The lawyer was probably appointed to him (still getting paid). The job of the lawyer is to win the case, which is to persuade the jury that the defendant is not guilty.

The only problem is that you guys are slamming the lawyer of the illegal immigrants for doing his job. I'm sure he wants those assholes in prison, but he has to do his job.
