Trumps NYT Interview Was Bizarre

I think Trump was blowing off steam going after Sessions and Rosenstein etc.. But one part of the interview is just insane and it's the part where he spoke about the 1st Lady of Japan not knowing English???
Obviously she can speak English or at least read it. Can you have a basic conversation with Trump with limited English? Either way it's pretty weird?

Haha this is the kind of stuff I can't really get worked up over. He's just talking. It's funny. I agree it's probably unwise to say this kind of stuff on the record but that's Trump. What are ya gonna do?

I have no idea what happened but she must have about a High School level of English. I've always felt other countries put more emphasis on writing and listening than speaking English. This could be the reason. Thinking Trump may not have known since at G-20 she had interpreter with her then in informal setting she didn't?

Our owners father is married to a Panamanian woman that doesn't speak real good english and she wouldn't talk to me for years. I thought she was just being a bitch then one year we are at a trade show and she starts talking to me and she told me she was afraid to talk to me because her english wasn't real good and she thought I would think less of her because of it.

I will give Trump credit: he does give us insight into his inner thoughts, whether through his tweets or in his interviews.
They may be disturbing, or a confusing stream of consciousness, but we do get insight that is atypical for political figures.

Maybe she had her speech written out for her phonetically, in Japanese, but isn't capable of conversing in English?
