He'll get it back from Mexico one way or the other.

Besides, with taxes from the millions of jobs he'll return to the US, they will basically end up paying for it.

Post one link where Trump said that Mexico would literally cut the check

go watch any campaign video

Show me where he told the American people that Mexico would through economic policy. Do you understand how mass politics works? You can't speak in absolutes and technically mean something else.

And his tweet this morning still implies Mexico is paying for it later. We are only paying for it now to speed up the process, so really:

The quote always described an alternative. In that light, your OP is nonsense.

Interesting response. When did someone say it didn't?

What does that have to do with border security and illegal immigration.

The new tax dollars offset costs for building the wall. Mexican jobs moving back here indirectly pays for the wall.

However, Trump’s overall message here is misleading because he suggests that the size of the trade deficit is proof that Mexico could pay for the wall. In reality, the trade deficit has nothing to do with whether the Mexican government could afford to write the United States a check to build the wall.

We rate this statement False.

Exactly as Trump said
quote:

Donald Trump’s critics say Mexico can’t or won’t pay for a wall at the border, which he says is hogwash.

"When they say ‘but Mexico can't pay for the wall,’ I say of course they can," said the Republican frontrunner at a town hall in Norwalk, Iowa, on Jan. 20. "We have a trade deficit with Mexico that's unbelievably big. Humongous. It's a humongous number. It's billions and billions of dollars -- far more than what we're talking about for the wall. The wall's peanuts compared to that."

Either you didn't read Trump's statement, or you read it and did not understand its relevance to your mistaken assertion.

Relative to Jeff Bezos' paper editorializing in opposition to Trump, I frankly don't give a rat's arse WTF some nitwit journalist thinks might or might not be possible in trade realignment.
E.g., These same Bozos had a field day when Trump said NAFTA would be renegotiated. Hell man, the WashPo poo-poo'd the notion it was even possible. Now both the Mexican and Canadian Governments have indicated a willingness to do just that. So much for their opinion as to wtf is true or false.

Back to the point at hand, the fact is Trump was crystal clear about basis for his "Mexico will pay for it" assertion, and that basis is sound. It's apparent you were unaware of it.

That happens.
You learned something.
Own it, and move on.

That is not Mexico paying for it.

That is American taxpayers paying for it.

Claiming bringing jobs back will pay for the wall is moving the goal posts.

What happened to taxing money being sent to Mexico?

You said Mexico would pay in the ways discussed in this thread. Those ways discussed Here were that Mexico would pay for it through the realization of economic policy,
As I said earlier in the thread, if Trump's plan to pay for the wall is to bankrupt Mexico, he'd better build it 50 feet high and 500 miles wide, otherwise we'll see the biggest influx into this country in history.

Let's try again.
This statement is from Jan 2016.
