Is trump afraid he will lose support of his base since trump country is disproportionately affected by opioid addiction?

Umm I guess at the risk of 'fake news'

I don't see how it wouldn't.

Sorry, just some carry over disappointment from the "Leakers briefing" last Friday.

Thank goodness this is being addressed. We have a huge problem in this country. I see it every day

I knew it was bad in this area the first time I visited the area a couple of years ago, but I think it has gotten worse since then. I was actually recently reminded of that fact Saturday.

I'm not even particularly social or in tune with my local community and I'm noticing it.

Is opioid use less in states that have legalized marijuana? It seems like it would be. I've never seen any stats on the matter.

Not sure.

It (heroin) definitely seems worse near here outside Pittsburgh than any place I've ever lived. It isn't as prevalent in town or in the nicer suburbs, but in the surrounding areas like Greensburg or McKeesport....it's hard not to notice.

It's an odd change from Memphis, where there is actually much more violent crime.

And why has Columbia turned out to be a war zone? Could it be because drugs are illegal causing criminals to make massive profits? See prohibition with alcohol and you will see the same thing.

I was really referring to prescribed opioid abuse. I wouldn't think that a heroin user would switch to mj if mj were legalized but someone that is abusing percocet would likely make the switch.

great question! I live part time in Portland Maine, which is extremely pro pot and the first city on the east coast to legalize pot for possession,(before you say that Portland must be a shitty place to live, it was rated #1 city in the country to live via Forbes a couple years back and i absolutely love it except for tourist season), they did this is midst of heroin/opioid epidemic that is destroying the state and basically all of the NE.

Everyone was on board to legalize when it came for the vote but a lot of people were asking,"is this what we need while battling the smack problem?". So they conducted surveys with former addicts and the results were amazing. Many former opioid users were using pot to ween themselves off opioids because it was the most effective form of detoxing rather than using prescription medication, which many users agreed were not nearly as effective. All of this happened a few years ago and I can go out on the wharf I work on, talk to the guys that work for me who were former junkies and everyone one of them will say,"pot helped save my life and i use it everyday to stay off dope", these guys work their balls off from around 4-4:30 everyday till they are done and all they do is smoke pot and drink on the occasion, but a couple of them say that alcohol creates a slippery slope.

Everyday is a battle for these guys, they are good guys who made a terrible choice in their life and possession charges keep them from obtaining professional careers. One of my guys graduated top in his class from a local college with a finance degree and had an awesome life till he got hooked on smack and now his life is basically ruined because no one will hire him with a felony possession charge on his record, which is bullshite imo. Its funny that all of them said the same thing though, they all say,"well... i could've ended up like some of my others friends six feet under... so i'm pretty lucky".

So yes, pot does help these guys get off opioids and they do say that pot helped save their lives.

Want to make a major dent in the opioid crisis?

Get rid of 'patient satisfaction surveys'.

If he doesn't have any direction in this "briefing" and it's just a speech about drugs = bad and look at how great I am, I'll be severely disappointed.

This shite hits close to home for me.

imo drug users make terrible decisions that result in their life being shitty, that doesn't make them thug criminals, all these boys are all white and dindus are black if my understanding of the term is correct

This doesn't need to be stumpish, like you said, it hits home for lots of folks and needs to be handled in a serious tone with real answers for people.

However I am afraid that big pharma has too much of a hold on DC.

We shall see.

The first step is convincing people Norco and Percocet won't fix their fibromyalgia and "I'm fat" pains.

Good luck with that
