I will say the obama worshipping in schools had more of a patriotic effect. I've seen it first hand where people that weren't even interest in politics or civics are now engaged in the civic process, just because of his election.

They feel more American and that this is just as much of their country as it is anyone else's (100%true). I think there is great value in more Americans feeling American and being more patriotic, if it's not patriotism fueled by hatred for others.

Kids now imagine themselves as senators and governors and such. It's great, and causes more civil discourse
