It truly will be interesting to read about the most divisive presidency in American History in a few years. Trump adherents will no doubt refer to these times as the "Good old days".

Trump is angry at athletes for exercising their right to speech; but his anger did not begin there. It is to persuade them that they are wrong,” wrote Justice William Brennan in his majority opinion in 1989. The following year, the Court rejected a federal “flag protection” act, declaring, “Punishing desecration of the flag dilutes the very freedom that makes this emblem so revered, and worth revering.”

As other players have joined Karpernick’s protest, Trump’s anger has grown. “Wouldn't you love to see one of these NFL owners ... say, 'Get that son of a bitch off the field right now. Out. He's fired,” roared Trump at a rally.  On Twitter, Trump attacked Steph Curry of the Golden State Warriors for his reluctance to visit the Trump White House. “Going to the White House is considered a great honor for a championship team. Stephen Curry is hesitating, therefore invitation is withdrawn!” tweeted Trump. Lebron James reacted with a tweet of his own: "Going to White House was a great honor until you showed up.”

Trump's amen corner, of course, backed him up. Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin said players should "do free speech on their own time." White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders snidely suggested the athletes protest the police protecting them. What Trump and his salaried sycophants refuse to understand is that they don’t get to dictate how or whether other people protest. The First Amendment does not say, “Only presidentially approved protests allowed.”

THIS IS NOT A FIRST AMENDMENT ISSUE. THE ONLY LOOSE CORRELATION WOULD BE HOW MUCH GOD DAMNED WELFARE THE NFL GETS FROM THE GOVERNMENT. frick OFF.

Athletes are there to entertain the crowd, not to lecture them on social issues.

The 1st amendment allows you to wear shirts emblazoned with "frick The Police" and shout obscenities at the top of your lungs.

Decent people still don't do that.

Decent people still show respect to our veterans and our flag.

I realize Progs are debased, broken people for the most part, so I know this is lost on you.

If you understood nuance, you would see that it is a first amendment issue. POTUS's words have weight, and when the leader of the free world calls for retaliation against peaceful protest, it becomes a first amendment issue.

If you don't care what they're upset about , then you certainly have the right to not watch them. Of course, the Divider-in -Chief wants them fired.

This has not one God damned thing to do with the First Amendment, other than Trump having the same right to express an opinion as anyone else.

I knew he would draw out stupidity, wasn't counting on highlighting the left's ignorance of the Constitution.

It's not like he attacked anyone with a bat or bike lock.

Where is Antifa? They should show up at some stadiums.

Trump gave an opinion which has no weight of law behind it and never will. If a person doesn't like that opinion, fine, but this particular comment about the NFL players kneeling has nothing to do with free speech as defined by the first amendment.
