Do the US numbers include suicides? That is common in the US numbers...

Don't think it's higher "violent" crime rate

But Hail's 14 figure was correct for 2011:

Homicides by firearms:

UK: 14 Ranked 39th.

That's not true according to the Office of National Statistics. Page 15 LINK

quote:

There were 60 shooting homicide victims in 2010/11, an increase of 19 offences compared with
the 41 in 2009/10. This includes the 12 victims of the Cumbrian shootings on 2 June 2010. The
proportion of homicides committed by shooting was nine per cent in 2010/11.

and LINK

quote:

Less than one per cent of all firearm offences in 2011/12 resulted in a fatal injury (Table 3.02). All
42 fatalities in 2011/12 involved a weapon being fired, with 18 of the fatalities involving the use of
a handgun, 16 involving the use of a shotgun, 3 involving a rifle and the remaining 5 involving the
use of an unidentified or other firearm (Table 3.03 and 3.05)

And they don't count homicides as homicides if there is no conviction.

No it wouldn't. You can ban gun production right now if you wanted to.

Obviously that would be a bad thing to do, but it would lead to a plummeting of guns.

You are ignorant. With 3D printing and the parts market the number of guns would not go down quickly at all.

Ban manufacture now and the guns I used to have (terrible boat accident yesterday) will not go away.

There are well over 300 million guns in American, there isn't anything plummeting...

No King or President since Lincoln--not even LBJ--has marched an army into a US state and took over.

Contrast that with Europe and Latin America.

Gun violence did not go down in England after guns were outlawed or strictly regulated. That tells me it was not the availability of guns that was the problem.

No, I'm saying if someone is telling you hes going to blast his boss tomorrow, it would probably be reasonable (and would be illegal not to) to do something about it as a physician listening to this.

Except that's not the standard. If that were the threshold, sure all for it

But there's also context to consider

"Man, if love to walk in there tomorrow and kill my boss"

That can be haha or whoa
