I don't think Trump has a specific policy agenda.

- immigration reform
- tougher borders aka wall
- tax relief for the middle class
- appoint judges who uphold the constitution
- cut red tape
- reform tax code
- overhaul healthcare
- slash bullshite climate change policies
- kill bad globalist policies that hurt the US

going to the democrats so he can get the debt ceiling raised is supposed to be a strategic long-term move?

That's more McConnell's doing than Trump's. If not for him it is Justice Garland instead of Justice Gorsuch.

I'll give Trump credit for selecting him, I think he was a fine choice, but I don't really think that is reflective of his ability to advance his agenda.

It's only till December. That's short term. If he's able to leverage a deal on taxes than we can really get the economy going which is what's going to have to happen first if the debt issue will ever be addressed. Which is the long term strategy.

Or would you rather see the republicans in congress fight the same old government shutdown battle over the debt ceiling that they've showed repeatedly they cannot win?

So that's what this is? Trump promising concessions to the Dems on future tax reform that will "really get the economy going" (but magically not blow up deficits) in exchange for their support now?

i would rather see moar sequesters, and credible and permanent spending reform

I haven't yet, so I don't think I'll start now.

I don't understand the laughter about my post. McConnell ensured that whomever won the election was nominating Scalia's replacement.

Appointing a justice is his duty, and while it checks a box off of a to-do list, it is not really something that directly advances policy goals.

Gorsuch doesn't get you any closer to the wall, to Healthcare reform, Infrastructure or tax reform.

So, I guess, we are back to my original question.

He'll never lower the debt unless he can cut a deal on taxes and get the economy turned around. Can't pay off the debt with a stagnant economy but you can with a roaring one.

Consistent with what both sides have said from time to time over the last two years, President Trump is not part of the Republican Party or the democrat party.

He is the founding member of the American party! Doing whatever he thinks is best for the American people and doesn't really care what anyone else says about it.
