The Niners being 0-5 while pushing this shite hard? That is what karma is.

The two teams whose players made the biggest stink about this shite, BEFORE Trump even chimed in on anything, are a combined 0-10 right now.

Why is it always the guys raised in middle and upper class families that make the most stink about "the struggle"?

Is this a reflection of the lefts glorification of thuggery? Are these players pushing the envelope to compensate for their upbringing in the eyes of their less fortunate peers?

It's absolutely bizarre how people overthink the simplest of things.

It was either intentional or it was not. I'm not sure which way I prefer. Intentional and it's the administration making a political statement by counterprotesting.. or unintentional and the administration putting the dumpster fire on display.

This board would have gone nuclear if Obama was out there supporting a BLM rally or imagine if he was counter protesting at a unite the right/white nationalist rally

Why would we want to read an article by Eric Reid who defines oppression as the VP leaving a football game early?

Because they're intelligent, educated, and articulate.

Do you think Thomas Jefferson, Ben Franklin, and John Adams were suffering hard under George III?

The whole "they're well off so they can't speak out about injustice" line of thinking is ridiculous.

Systematic oppression? I didn't realize Pence's party has controlled the majority of the third world black cities/communities in this country for decades now. I also guess Pence is to blame for Obama leaving office with record high poverty and welfare rates amongst the black race

This and all of this! More and more black people are waking up to this FACT. I just wish that they would all wake up and realize that there is NO more racist group of people that liberal politicians. They are proud to display their racism by way of shouting that blacks are incapable of taking care of themselves

But it certainly wasn't "oppression" by any reasonably accepted definition of the word.

One form of oppression is suppressing one's voice. By characterizing Reid's protest as a protest against the flag, the military, and the country, the President and VP are in effect suppressing his voice by mischaracterizing the point of his protest. By ignoring the issue Reid is protesting, it allows what he believes to be oppression of black citizens at the hands of law enforcement to continue.

That was Reid's point, and is a valid one.

I would guess the latter.

The ones who grew up in more luxurious settings are expected to do this shite lest they be called an Oreo or a Tom.

This shite stain has gone off the deep end living in SanFrancisco. So disappointed that he's being oppressed. I think he should go play sports in another country like Russia or Iran...then he can come back and tell me what he thinks of America. Spoiled little brat child

If you choose a purely symbolic form of protest to get whatever point it is you want to get across, I don't think you get to dictate exactly how everyone is supposed to perceive and interpret your symbolic protest.

Except there isn't oppression of black people by law enforcement. It's a manufactured controversy and Reid's protest is protesting something that doesn't exist. Also, Reid doesn't get to decide how other people should react to his actions.

Where TF did I say that?

I asked a question. We all know that there is a "blackness" factor in professional sports. Remember "cornball brothas"?

I'm wondering why the face of all of these movements is either a race grifter like Sharpton and Shaun King, or some guy like Kaep who grew up in a stable, loving home - getting the very best of the American dream.

You think Eric Ried has experienced any real oppression in his life? Lulz

That's a completely unreasonable position. Refusing to acknowledge, or disagreeing with, one's position in no way constitutes "oppression." The speaker/actor is still free to display their displeasure in amyway he sees fit.

100% spot on. Just because someone protests, I don't have to give total validity to the point they are trying to make. Spleen thinks that because some think the protest is out of line, it means they are being oppressed.

People just disagreeing with you doesn't mean they're oppressing you. Everyone has different interpretations

Fair enough but Reid has made some good points in the discussion prior to this statement. And nothing about this invalidates my overall point.

Reid made more money in that one game than probably 90% of white American families will make this year.
