If the "they" you're talking about are the hardliners then I agree but your average Iranian loves the West and they wish we'd get rid of the hardliners.

Why do they also hate India, Nigeria, Egypt, France, Algeria, Yemen, Russia, Saudi , Israel, Qatar, turkey, etc? Seems like they find reason in almost any country they interact with.

Terrorists need money and the ME raked it in for years. When the Soviets left Afghanistan, their attention began turning to other areas such as spreading their influence. It's same metality watching liberals call for Confederate statues to be taken down then moving on to Lincoln, Washington, etc.

The Islamic countries of the ME will always be a problem regardless where your troops are. Those areas have never left other areas alone. Other countries can try to appease them or avoid them but the ME will not be allowed to be ignored or appeased.

The rise of Islamic Fundamentalism in Countries where dictatorial tyrants once kept It/Them under foot is the reason for "more terrorism". It all started with the overthrow of the Shah of Iran; snowballed from there.

Clash of Civilizations; Theocracy vs. Democratic Individual Freedom. Kinda like Marxism/Socialism vs. Capitalism. All about the Collective vs. the Individual. Or the State of Israel vs. the Palestinian State. Polar opposites...and no possibility of a solution given the current visionary dynamic.

So the reason for those attacks in Germany,Belgium and France was because of Desert Storm?

You really want to go with that narrative?

Desert Storm was the beginning of the West's massive efforts to expand militarily in the ME.

I don't know if OBL would have targeted the US if we had not built a permanent base in SA.

But yes I do think a lot more terrorist exist now than before because of the chaos created as we have worked to change regimes.

I know this was his talking point but terrorists usually just like to kill & destroy; they don't need a reason.

OBL wanted to overthrow the House of Saud--installed BTW by the WW1 allies as they broke up the remaining Ottoman Empire.

I know......on paper it "appears" that OBL's terrorist initiation was somewhat honorable as in I want my SA back.

Which nation committed 911?

My stance after 911 was we should give the Taliban a week to turn over OBL and his people and nuke em if they didn't.

Not one more drop of American blood should be spilled there.

You really think W wasn't going to war in Afghanistan AND Iraq? No way he wasn't going to give the warhawks everything they wanted.

It's one of many, not necessarily mutually exclusive reasons:

- Breakdown of the Cold War order
- More involvement in the Middle East and elsewhere in the Islamic world because of said breakdown
- Greatly expanded spread of Salafist ideas and resources throughout the Islamic world over the last 40 years (arguably the most important reason)
- A sense of rootlessness in the large immigration movements of the modern world
- the Internet

There are more, but I think you get the idea.
