Claims the Solar Foundation which wants to continue taxpayer subsidies for its industry.

Which one is a bigger net positive for the economy though?

Solyndra employed a lot of people. Look what happened to them

If that is a fact, and it is a result of free markets with no government influence, I'm cool with it.

Massive Taxpayer subsidies of one industry and massive Government regulations against another industry tend to have that effect.

Without tax credits there would not be a single solar panel installed other than the few places where there is no other source of power, and the homes of Liberal/SJWs with money to throw away.

Need to pull fed funding for it and let the private sector develop it. Get those coal jobs back.

Sure but that's one company, not an entire industry. I don't think solar (at least in its current state) is the energy tech of the future, but neither is coal. Nuclear is what we should be investing in.

I believe co-op solar farms will grow in popularity. You buy as many panels as your pocketbook can stand and pay them out over a six year period on your electric bill. They are installed in a collector farm and the electricity generated is sold to the grid. You get a pro-rata portion of the monthly revenue as a credit against your electrical bill, less a yearly maintenance/insurance fee per panel.

There's no installation costs on your home, no HOA to deal with, no having to deal with facing away from the sun, or cutting back of trees, and if you live in a condo or apartment you can still participate in green energy.

SunPower Says It's Laying off 25% of Its Workforce

They had a huge layoff round in August as well.

If you think solar is thriving, and the outlook for 2017 is rosy, you're painfully uninformed.

In 2016...SunEdison went bankrupt. Sunpower and First Solar had significant layoffs. And Solar City had to "merge" with Tesla to prop up the balance sheet. The outlooks for 2017... isn't any better.

Utility-scale Solar is dead for the foreseeable future. It's only hope is more transferable tax breaks. Really those tax incentives were the only things attractive about it in he first place. No one cared about the electricity. Still don't.

Agreed. Natural gas is a good short term energy source, nuclear (fission) medium, and ultimately nuclear (fusion) as a long term solution.

Solar will never be a major source of power, will always remain niche supplemental power source. It's inefficient, extremely expensive, bad for the environment (look up how China mines for the materials used in solar panels),and most importantly the sun only shines part of the day, so there is some expensive storage method needed or a backup coal or natural gas plant

The efficiency is quickly improving but storage is the big factor limiting widespread use even as they get more efficient.

Figure out an effective means of some artificial photosynthesis and you might have something. That process isn't even in the neighborhood yet.
