Gen Z, iGen, or Centennials: Born 1996 and later
Millennials or Gen Y: Born 1977 to 1995
Generation X: Born 1965 to 1976
Baby Boomers: Born 1946 to 1964

If you're at either end of the spectrum, you can feel like you're not part of that generation.

For instance, early 90's movies about young adults are considered Gen X movies...

But someone born in 1965 is going to feel like a Fast Times at Ridgemont High or mid-80's college movies is their generation and not Reality Bites.

I find it interesting that people on this board who otherwise fart in the general direction of "experts" on a daily basis all of a sudden swear these tight generation bands are gospel truth

The reality is that we won't know how to define these generational bands for another decade or two. But with that said, I would argue that someone who is 35 today likely had a more similar childhood to someone that is 45 today than someone who is 25 today.

Frankly, with the rate of technological change of the last couple of decades and likely going forward, it wouldn't surprise me if we end up with a string of micro generations instead of anything resembling the large generations of the past. Things are just moving too quickly. Chopping people up into nearly arbitrary 20 year bands is counterproductive nonsense.

I agree on both of your points. How can I explain our son, he has always been very head strong, an independent thinker. He and a couple of the administrators did not see eye to eye on a lot of things. He has always thought for himself, not one that believes in peer pressure or is easily swayed. He also experienced some tragic life events early in life. He saw things in a much bigger picture then most and has a very old soul. So he questioned a lot. He felt the majority of HS was a waste of time and what he was learning did nothing to prepare him for the real world. He said this on multiple occasions to administrators. Rebellious yes, rude no. I remember, as he was growing up telling him that his attitude about life would be great as an adult, but as a parent, it was tough. He was and is wise beyond his years. He's 28 now and as a parent I could not be more proud of the fact that he has remained his own person. He has always known who he was... always. Never a bully or mean but would defend in a heartbeat. Very social with a lot of friends but is still his own person, even when it is or was not popular.

80 is usually considered X but you can find all kinds of different parameters.

I just put those dates in because that's how academia defines the generations.

But as I said, I put the qualifier in that if you were born at the very ends of a generation - you might not identify.

And yes, if you identify with growing up in the 80's - and that culture as part of adolescence...then you are Gen X.

Agreed and I don't put a lot of stock into political analysis of a generation whose oldest members are still in high school.

There's not a hard date. Like I said, you can find from 76 to 85 so I figure it's somewhere in the middle. 81-82 or so.

It's funny, the fact that you think since you "don't identify" as a mellinnial you shouldn't be one makes you so much of a millennial

how do you figure?

Gen Z maybe more conservative but it is only 55% white.

While being more conservative it will probably be more likely to lean blue do to high percentage of minority's.

The reason they put in 1977 - is because you had to experience the 80's beyond you were a mere baby or little child in the 80's.

Everyone I know who was born between 1969-1979 considers themselves Gen X...basically in the 80's you were a teenager or a kid...

But if you were actually born in the early or mid-80's and were a child - that's not Gen X; you wouldn't identify with the 80's culture because you were just a child - the 90's would be your growing pains.

Damn you are all some dense people here. The whole point is no laws were broken and they did something that is protected in our country. However somebody got their feelings hurt and they went all zero tolerance. Yes it is a private entity and they can, but should they. This would not have happened in the 80s .

Like the Xers, though, there won't be enough of them. When the huge, numerically, generations are total frickups, there is only so much we can do.

You should cry about it. It was a huge overreach by the powers that be. You do not disqualify a team for hurting someones feelings. This is how you make people weak and everyone gets a trophy.

I thought conservatives were all about tough love and consequences for actions and all that shite.

I would beat my kid and punish them, but would not take away a chance they earned.

You would beat your kid, but have a problem with them being disqualified for an action that you justify beating them over?!
