ost of the documents in Snowden's possession do not related to illegal NSA spying.
In fact most of them related to military activities.

But the Pentagon found that most of the stolen documents concern and potentially compromise ongoing military operations.

So its clear he doesn't really give a shite about Americans

You can always tell when someone basically has nothing when they start spamming image macros instead of making arguments.
BTW minmization is analyst-specific and is not applied before CIA/FBI backdoor queries

At any given time, the people in charge will always rationalize their abuses of authority by thinking that it's okay because they're"the good guys." I remember candidate Obama slamming the Navy Seals when Bush was in power, but he felt differently when Seal Team 6 handed him Bin Laden's head on a silver platter.
That being said, I think this administration has been far more intrusive than most. Anybody who thinks that the IRS harassment of conservatives was being directed by some out-of-control bureaucrat in Cincinnati is either stupid or simply being disingenuous.

The blizzard of emoticons and images is just a stalling technique until the ministry of truth gets the agitprop disseminated. Our bootlickers are apparently at the bottom of the list.

So there were apparent violoations of the intelligence oversight act. Does that mean we just throw the baby out with the bathwater?

well we know the one thing we can't do is throw someone in jail for abusing their power. That would be wrong. Lets just tell them not to abuse their power again and see if that works.

Because the NSA conveniently organizes its secret data so if you want to steal only the stuff related to illegal spying and bring it to a foreign country its already neatly separated into illegal and legal spying. It would be completely unreasonable to even suggest Snowden is carrying secret documents related to legal activities - especially since the big bad government says so.

The right wing thinks that whistleblower protection means you get to disclose all the legal activities you want along with the illegal ones.
I'm fine with only prosecuting him for the theft of secret data related to legal spying activities.

The non-publically available records of US persons (collected incidentally with an authorized opertion) should be properly reported and destroyed within 90 days of collection. Anyone in violation of IO should be disciplined. It is an abuse of trust--even if done only for amusement.
Getting rid of vital programs because they can be misused makes about as much sense as getting rid of cops because they shoot dogs.

And "the left" will become outraged again over the use of such tactics.

Yep. You polarized folks deserve one another.

No, Tl. It's a rhetorical question, and the answer is no.

Don't assume I am one of the "polarized folks." You'd be mistaken. I did not want the Patriot Act signed into law under Bush and I still don't like it.
Posted on 7/8/14 at 10:29 am to Navytiger74
There is no way to protect people from the improper use of NSA survellience techniques. No amount of oversight, warrants, etc. will ever be enough. This is a secretive process and, by rule, will always be able to circumvent any oversight.

This is what I have a major problem with, and the Russians and Chinese have it all. A real hero.

I think it's a bad law no matter who is in power.
