The guy's life has been lived up until running as a Democrat. However, because he is a business man, he has been pragmatic.

Liberals cannot stand pragmatism because it does not tolerate liberal ideology...pragmatism uses merit and reality for best practices. Pragmatism doesn't tolerate make believe.

Liberals are funny unveiled now. Will they win the day in the end...perhaps. Today is not that day though...

I believe this is a fundamental truth about contemporary leftism. They are dogmatic as frick. That's not to say that some on the right are not as well, but the left is militant about it and it is a frightening thing to behold.

Trump took the easiest path to victory. If he thought he could have won as a dem he would have run as a dem.

No, he could not be what they have become...which is not what Kennedy was...

The modern US liberal is much more akin to Chavez than Kennedy....

His cabinet sure doesn't look like a democrat's cabinet. Just saying.

ETA: It may be the most conservative cabinet I've seen in my lifetime, and that includes Regan's

The thing is, Donald Trump is more honest about his actual beliefs and doesn't hide behind a party. He was a Republican for a very long time. Then, he switched to Democrat after George W. Bush became President. He blamed Bush for a large portion of the USA's problems and didn't like the direction the Republican's were taking the country. Then, after Obama was elected President, he switched back to being a Republican because of how he felt about the Democrats.

You see? Parties don't mean a whole lot because neither are perfect. Trump was following his personal political beliefs on what he thought was best for the country. Honestly, he's probably more an Independent than anything.

TL;DR Donald Trump has been a Republican for his entire life, except for the Presidency of George W. Bush.

He's an opportunist, not an ideologue.

A 1960s dem, which by modern democrat standards looks ultra conservative.

I agree that the meaning of Democrat by direction of their base is vastly different. I think the GOP moved to the center but the democrats moved hard left.

I think we're going to move toward more of a U.K. model where the parties are really the pragmatists vs the idealists.

I think we are moving in a similar direction but I see the democrats as moving in the direction of unabashed socialists.

Reagan was in the GOP for decades before being president. Trump was supporting democrats up until Obama.

I like it, I think he is more in the middle, which is what I prefer.

Trump is essentially a 3rd party President which many of us wanted. There is no precedent for the path he will take. Has enemies in both parties.
