I've spent some time in France and have extended family in the Biarritz-Bayonne area and around Lyon.
You may know what you're talking about, but your first post wasn't clear with what you meant by the countryside. It's not as simple as rural v urban.

No it's not. I spent a year in Aries just slightly west of Marseilles .....cattle country . I got to know a lot of Pieds Noir types who hate the Gaullists for selling them out, despise the Socialists overall on principle and tolerate the National Front just because they are not any of the above.
My guess is this time they voted for LePen over Macron. If you want to meet people who would be home in the Tea Party in the US, it's the Pieds Noir.
