This. Assad emboldened ISIS to use them against all other legitimate opposition, even coordinating with them on airstrikes against rival rebel factions. Now, ISIS has grown beyond Assad's ability to control so he's asking for our help. If we help him, we're chumps.

Assad wasn't the only one who had a hand in creating Frankenstein's monster, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Turkey and even Al Qaeda did too, and now they've lost control of the monster and want our help putting it down. Whether or not we help Assad shouldn't have anything to with him playing us for chumps and everything to do with what's in our longterm best interest.

Don't forget good 'ol Uncle Sam. Most of their weapons came from us via Libya.

I am not saying that he is a good guy. But, I am saying that when leaders of sovereign nations try to keep power and keep some stability in their nation, we often act like they are monsters. Maybe we don't know what is going on there the way we think we do?

I'd rather Assad than the alternative. Look what happened in Iraq when we deposed, then killed, a secular butcher.

Translation: Please come bomb these bitches cause I can't even get them out of my own country, much less help you get them out of somewhere else.

Assad wants concessions from us in order for him to coordinate with us. And he's a horrible person. Just because ISIS is awful doesn't mean we have to blow Assad.

The Muslim definition of "secular" is quite a bit different than our definition of "secular." Islam was the official religion of Iraq during his reign. And while people believed he cynically used Islam as a means of consolidating power, we wouldn't view a President who had an official state religion and used that religion to consolidate power as "secular."

Considering the fact that his closest advisor and his Vice President was Roman Catholic, I wouldn't call Saddam an Islamist.

Only the Obama administration could go from trying to topple the current government to helping them within such a short span of time.

Only the Obama haters can go from bashing the Prez for being weak on Syria then urge him to get in bed with them.

After the first gulf war, he started a faith initiative where he used government money to build mosques, religious training centers and murals of himself in prayer. He also commissioned a version of the Koran to be written in his blood. Garden variety secularist to be sure.

I bashed him because he allied himself with the Islamists in Libya who funneled support from us to the Islamists in Syria who ended up being ISIS. I wish he'd stayed out of the Syria question altogether and we don't need their assent now.

IMO, these are the actions of a meglomaniac, not a devout fundmentialist Muslim.

Two things to remember about Libya:

1) That was Nicholas Sarkozy's war, not Obama's war. Just like W instigated the second Iraq war, Sarkozy was the instigator who rounded up the posse and dragged NATO to Libya.

2) The Libya war was about as multilateral as a war can get. Not only did it have unanimous Arab League and U.N approval, but at one time Norway was bombing Gaddafi. If Norway is bombing you, you probably had it coming.
