Alabama redistricting case by LSU Grad Alabama Fan
It's a fair ruling. African Americans currently only have 14% representation in the state when they are almost 27% of the population.

This is insane. Shouldn't they be representing their constituents regardless of race. This damn color of your skin crap is out of flicking control.

So the “Black District “ was drawn that way specifically because blacks complained they had no representation, and even where there were large clusters of blacks, their votes tended to be canceled out by other large blocks of whites in the same district.

So I don’t see much changing politically. The districts will be more competitive now, but blacks are still outnumbered heavily overall, with for instance blacks in Birmingham being outnumbered by whites in the suburbs.

The areas to the left and right of Mobile are the same district, which makes literally no sense whatsoever and is obviously outrageous.

Why is it outrageous? The western section of the southernmost district of Alabama is still accessible by car to the eastern section, via the overpass linking the land portion of the west to Gulf Shores and Orange Beach.

Also providing a second blue district to Alabama is more in line with the demographics of the state, which is, as earlier mentioned, about one-third black. Furthermore, changing the configuration of the district is culturally consonant. Mobile doesn't belong in a strong right-directed region with towns like Andalusia, Opp and Flomaton.

Because they aren't contiguous.

Literally none of this is accurate, and drawing districts based on race is racist. Totally in line with the Democrat Party though, for sure.

Alabama districts will look absolutely retarded if they are drawn in keeping with this. Many people will have no representation at all.

He would be my thought and plan for this. Instead of packing the district with 70-90% minorities.

Pack it 51/49 with the 49 heavy Republicans that vote regularly. The other 51 minorities who don’t typically vote. We know turnout is dismal in this country, so the district would still give the advantage to Republicans.

You could possibly get a Minority Republican to run in those districts to ease the fear that this is racial gerrymandering.

Gerrymandering is ok if you’re a Democrat, racist if you’re Republican. This should help the Dems pick up at least 4-5 seats in the Congress and gain the majority.
