Sperm Donor policies

Not really political but somewhat political. Has anyone here donated their sperm to a sperm bank?
I ask because even though I'm only 33 I am considering getting a vasectomy, but first I want to donate my speed. The idea that my genes will go on to another generation does appeal to me.
My question is this though, if I donate sperm and it is used to get a woman pregnant, they can't come back and sue me for child support can they? I want to make sure I'' legally protected.

You can't predict the future. You may have to pay child support at some point. It has happened before.

Pretty sure a guy helped a lesbian couple informally and got caught up in child support liability. Was a news story few years ago.
However, I believe done through official and proper channels, it's a non-issue.

Do you meet all the requirements to donate? They won't accept everyone.

I doubt they want your sperm. Also, donating is a huge hassle and probably not worth it. Sperm banks have tons of rules and requirements that most people don't want to put up with.

Thats because it wasn't done through proper channels...dude responded to a Craigslist ad seeking a sperm donor and gave the lesbians a cup full of jizz and they artifically inseminated at home. If they went through sperm bank and doctor's office, the guy wouldn't have been on the hook for anything for child support
