quote:

Liberals LOVE for people to think of themselves as victims. They love for people to go through life furious, upset over things most people wouldn’t even notice. They need you alienated and angry so they can control you and turn you out at the polls, so they can get their sick little self-esteem boost for helping a poor little mediocrity like you.

If you’re black or Hispanic and think white people hate you, if you’re gay and think the Christians want to wipe you out, or if you’re a woman who believes the patriarchy is keeping you down, you’re going to have an unhappy life. It doesn’t matter if things are going well or you have success; you’re going to be angry. You’re going to feel mistreated. You’re going to walk around chalking up every normal event in the world to bias that primarily exists in your head. You’re going to nurse grievances. You’re going to be unhappy.

As consolation, you can half-arse your way through life and chalk up your failures to “white racism,” “those hypocritical Christians,” or “the patriarchy.” You can live with the illusion that, like Elizabeth Cady Stanton, you’re fighting for women’s rights, or, like Martin Luther King, you’re trying to reform a society teeming with racism -- but that only makes you sound like a joke. Stanton was fighting for women’s right to vote. Today, feminists whine about having to pay for their birth control. Martin Luther King was fighting for equal rights, and today liberal “black leaders” spend their time bitching about whether hoop earrings are cultural appropriation. There are legions of liberal Don Quixotes jousting with windmills and pretending that the trivia they obsess over gives meaning to their victimhood-centered lives.

The problem with these people is that they can only see the world through the lens of bigotry. They link everything to Bigotry like the dad in "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" strains to connect every word, including Kimono, to Greek. They spend so much time tilting at these windmills that they miss the opportunities to address actual, solvable problems. To make matters worse, by approaching problems, particularly economic and social issues, exclusively from the perspective that the ONLY cause is irrational bigotry, it alienates potential allies and solidifies opposition ,who believe they are being unfairly demonized, against whatever the aggrieved mob calls for.

Once you start a debate, on any issue, from the perspective that all ills are the result of irational evil and that all who oppose your ends embody said irrational evil, it is impossible to ever find common ground and work towards rational solutions because one is starting from a position devoid of respect for any other view point. No compromise can be made absent respect.

Being liberal lends itself to being unhappy by design. If you have an uncanny affinity for change, you look for things that need to change, so you look for things that are wrong with the world, and the people who do that are, by and large, less happy than those who don't.

It goes even deeper than this, in my opinion.

The affinity for change which you reference here has roots in the liberal conception of the human mind/human rationality. For a liberal, the truest way to express our smartness is to transform things. Like a scientist transform and makes better our understanding of a natural process, or like an engineer makes better a technology, to the liberal, the world we inherit is one in which all things are MEANT to be changed and transformed, with frequent appeals to "intelligence", and criticisms of the "ignorance" which blocks this rational betterment of all societal things.

The problem with this worldview, of course, is that human society is not rational. It is not the result of human design, but of human action. It's institutions are the result of tens of thousands of years of trial and error and evolution, not the minds of thinking man. It is complex and as Scotland's other great philosopher at the time of Adam Smith said beautifully:

quote:

Like the winds, that come we know not whence, and blow whithersoever they list, the forms of society are derived from an obscure and distant origin; they arise long before the date of philosophy, from the instincts, not from the speculations of man. The crowd of mankind, are directed in their establishments and measures, by the circumstances in which they are placed; and seldom are turned from their way, to follow the plan of any single projector.

Every step and every movement of the multitude, even in what is termed enlightened ages, are made with equal blindness to the future; and nations stumble upon establishments [institutions], which are indeed the result of human action, but not the execution of any human design.

[It] may with more reason be affirmed for communities [societies], that they admit of the greatest revolutions where no change is intended, and that the most refined politicians do not always know whither they are leading the state by their projects.

There are human beings on this board who actually believe that this is true.

That is because it is a fact. Explain the "white privilege" B.S.

I get tired of being blamed for other people's ills. I don't sit up nights thinking about how to keep various ethnic groups down. If a community wants to live in fear or squalor because of political correctness that is their fault, not mine.

I never owned a slave. Never met one. And I refuse to take responsibility for things I had no control over. If a black man shot one of my ancestors do they owe me reparations? Of course not.

My grandfather was a sharecropper. I grew up with 9 other people in a 2 br 1 bath house. Hardly privilege.

As much as you get attacked on here a want, this article is more for the DU crowd. The liberals on this site are pale reflections of the insanity that is true SJWism.

so you look for things that are wrong with the world,

often this has become "you create things that are wrong with the world to maintain your self-created importance in the world by giving you something to fight". this is a very big reason why their arguments have shifted SO far to the subjective

you can never be wrong in a discussion if your point is derived solely from your (alleged) subjective feelings

from a certain angle, you can make that argument (not that i'd totally agree with it)

governmental policy has not been favorable towards the lower-middle class white male the past 40-50 years and often has given advantages to basically every other class to their detriment. even previous institutions for this demo like unions have become dissolved greatly over this time period

the underclass (of all races and sexes) certainly has been given a ton of governmental advantage over this time

the upper class (of all races and sexes) has also had many governmental policies created for their economic benefit

then when you look at similar economic standing, affirmative action programs and title 9 and all sorts of other policies have shifted government-created advantages to people of other sexes and races

so it's not the most absurd argument in history if you look at it solely from a limited sphere of governmental policy
