Therefore if you have to pay even a cent for an ID, then its a poll tax.

Of course, the goal posts shift when states make IDs free.

Then it becomes about getting to the place to get your ID and how inconvenient that is to minorities, and therefore racist.

They just don't want to admit that they do not want their voters to have to show ID.

See this I can get behind. Make that shite free and easily attainable. Then if you don't vote it is because you are a lazy frick.

Care to explain why they couldn't even conduct a recount in several inner city Detroit precincts?

They have outdated optical scanners that make reconciling discrepancies impossible. The vast majority of the districts with discrepancies had between 1-5 extra votes cast. Total.

Care to explain why that's enough to disenfranchise millions of people nationwide, mostly the poor and minorities?

Progressives believe black folks are incapable of getting a government issue ID. It's racism by low expectations.

When Republican legislators specifically craft racist voter ID laws, yes.

Funny how you leave that part out.

Partly yes, but voter id laws would have stopped those verified 1-5 votes/district you mentioned. Or is that not a problem you think is worth solving?

Btw I do get what your saying, but every policy tries to solve a problem and harms some percentage of people. Look at Obamacare. Granted some people access to healthcare and raised the rates a shite ton on another set of people.

It's not a problem that changes the result of any election, and it disenfranchises millions. So no, not a problem.

And usually there is a specific problem they're looking to solve. In the US, voter ID laws are a solution in search of a problem. Period. End of story. Unquestionably. (though some will try to argue otherwise lacking any facts for their opinions)

If they are made free for those who cant afford them (which they would already need an ID for welfare), who can the action of getting an ID racist. If its access, then what if the government did a "book mobile" id center?

The only time I saw something remotely linked like this was in NC (i believe). They issued a study that showed minorities would have a harder time with ID laws and the next day legislation was made on voter ID laws. Either terrible timing or actual attempt, but either way terrible optics and got the criticism it deserved

It's not low expectations. Republicans ask what forms of ID African-Americans use most, then craft laws to specifically target ways to disproportionately disenfranchise African Americans.

Voter ID has no purpose.
