So, they took a major step in getting rid of overtime pay

Looks like overtime pay is on the chopping block, all under the guise of flexibility for employees. Under this bill, which appears to have full Republican support and the support of the Trump administration, employers would be allowed to stop paying overtime, with a system developed for accumulative hours resulting in more PTO (paid time off) days instead of time-and-a-half.
I'm freaking done, man. Companies and profits over people time and time again. We already have the longest work weeks and stagnant wages, but that's not good enough. Nope, they want our sacrifice pay, too. Such garbage. This is indefensible to me.

As long as they liquidate the remaining PTO when you leave I don't see the issue here

public sector already has this why no private sector?
EDIT: I know of numerous state employees that have months of occurred PTO from extra hours that they can "retire" over a year or two early and still get paid because of the PTO days

the shite that Obama did re: OT pay was way worse than this. Caused all kinds of compliance issues and Obama suspended implementation of it after companies spent alot of resources on compliance.

We don't have the longest work week.
A quick google search gave me this: 15 Countries With Longer Work Weeks Than The US
But yeah, the GOP is all about companies over individuals. And democrats are all about helping individuals to the point that we have to raise the debt ceiling again in a few months.

No, you're wrong. It's an option for the workers. The employers still have to offer OT. The workers can choose to forgo OT and take comp time instead IF THEY SO CHOOSE. Their employers cannot deny them OT.
This is in response to a regulation passed during the Obama Administration which forbid employers from offering comp time and mandating that they had to offer OT. As someone who's work used to offer the choice, I often took comp time. I worked 60-70 hours per week, and found that when I took more than 50, the payroll taxes ate me alive. By only taking 10 hours of OT every week, and stockpiling the rest, I could take a month off at a time in between projects if I wanted to. I took an epic road trip to Chicago with my wife and saw my cousins and friends up there whom I hadn't seen in years.
When I left the company, I had a couple weeks of Comp Time saved up, so it was paid to me in a lump sum, which really helped to tide me over until my next job started.
This is a good law because it gives a CHOICE for the EMPLOYEE.

I worked for a company that called it a couple of different things:
Comp Time
POAD (Paid or another day)
We loved it. gave us flexibility. If i needed extra time off I could work a little extra and take off. If i need a little extra cash, I asked to be paid. It was great!
A LOT of the time, if you worked 4 hours of Over Time and asked to be paid in Comp Time they would give us time and a half, just like they would have paid you if you had asked to be paid.
4 hours of work = 6 hours off.

Good, I ain't working over time anyway. I'd rather have the time off if I had to choose, but like I said F that BS, I clock my 40's and my arse is at the house chillin.

The GOP legislation would allow private-sector companies to offer workers a choice between "comp time" and overtime pay. Workers could save as much as 160 hours - or about one month's worth - of paid time off. At the end of the year, their companies would pay them for any time off they don't use. Employees would not be forced to take time off, if they prefer to cash in a bigger paycheck, Roby said.

Same for me, too. My wife and I ended taking my extra time and spent 3 1/2 weeks in Italy. It was great!
