This thread is a perfect example of the team mentality that rules politics.

Only as to one side of the political spectrum.
The conservatives/GOPers have roundly criticized Scalise for either incompetence in not vetting the group before speaking to them, or stupidity for knowing and doing so anyway.
OTOH, the libs/progs/DEMS have essentially put a Klan hood on him, while ignoring the rampant racism of their own allies.
So, yes...there is a "team mentality," but it is not on the right.

IMO, this is much ado about nothing, unless Scalise has a pattern of cavorting with White supremacists, or if he personally met with David Duke. The guilt-by-association smear tactics, that both Republicans (Jeremiah Wright, Bill Ayers, etc.) and Democrats (Bob Jones, John Hagee, Rod Parsely, etc.) engage in is silly and counter-productive. I'll bet there are very few people in Congress who haven't crossed paths with some reprehensible characters in their political careers, because being successful in politics inevitably forces politicians to suck to people they despise, but you should be able to get a good idea of what a person stands for based on their own words and writings.
Oddly enough, Congressman Peter King has literally cavorted with some of the most notorious terrorists of the 20th century while they were still engaging in terrorism, but neither the MSM nor Democrats have ever gone after him. Why is that?

Uh, nope. I'm not going to let one instance of someone not properly vetting a group before speaking to them have me condemn him as a white supremacist.
Now if he had been regularly attending their meetings for 20 years, donating money to them, having the leader of the group officiate at his marriage, and then have that same leader baptize his children, then I would say he was some sort of racist.
Scalise is being held to a ridiculous standard and the Left is held to practically none.

Trying to compare Jeremiah Wright, an admittedly Black militant preacher, to David Duke, an unrepentant White supremacist and anti-Semite, is about as intellectually dishonest as it gets.

You're right. A future US President sitting in the pew of an anti-American spewing preacher for more than 20 years is so much worse.

This thread is a perfect example of the team mentality that rules politics.
Or the team that says "frick them and their hypocrisy and double standards"?
Clean up your own house before condemning mine frickwad.

You just keep reinforcing it...you're such a team player that you've blinded yourself.

The ones that do just conveniently ignore him. In keeping with the rest of their mentality, they're in denial...if they just ignore it long enough the issue will go away.
Of course, these ARE the same people who blindly worshipped "The Lion of The Senate" who murdered a woman.

You must have overlooked my posts showing the lifetime achievement award given to Farrakhan by Wright.

This is what is wrong with this country. House divided. No one wants to be an American. Everyone wants to separate themselves from those who are not like them.

quote:Scalise spoke about fiscal policy to an unacceptable group, and he is somehow toxic. Elizabeth Warren lied for decades about being a member of a minority group for economic and professional gain, and she is considered a front runner for national leadership positions. Which was the more reprehensible behavior?
This is an example of the lowest form of "gotcha" politics I've seen.
Scalise admitted he made a mistake, and has disavowed the policies of the group he addressed. Warren has never apologized, or admitted to her deceptions. I don't know about others, but I know which of the two I trust.

Do you really think that a politician who is as close to Duke as Obama is Wright could get elected President twice? The fact that you think that Jeremiah Wright is more reprehensible than David Duke is a perfect illustration of why the GOP can't attract minorities.

I would like to move away from this sort of "team mentality" you speak of and try be a true "free thinker". What should my reaction to this news be?
