Every time the left call Trump an "authoritarian leader", I wonder to myself "How is he any worse than Obama?". We just survived 8 years of a egomaniacal President who circumvented the Constitution at will and was never questioned by the media.

I don't deny that there is some truth in this and I do not discount the fact that looking at the past 8 years from the perspective of the right, taking away any racial shite and simply looking at the reality of the last 8 years...I can certainly understand the angst. My question is this....can any of you do the same thing with the consideration that the only thing standing in Trump's and the rights way are a small group of Republicans? That is not something the right has ever faced...even when Obama had both houses in 2008 he really didn't...Trump really does...with the ability to add the courts in the right column.

And a word of caution.....the GOP has the tiller...good bad or indifferent the GOP has the con for at least 2 years and probably 8....

Anything bad goes wrong "It's Obama's fault. We inherited a bag of shite". Worked like a charm for the past eight years. Right?

One thing you have to remember German- Dems will vote for whatever shite policy dumasses like Pelosi and Obama throw at them. Pubs have McCain, Graham, and more than a handful of others, who go out of their way to prove how "fair" and "independent" they are.

Asshats like McCain don't exist in the Dem party.

In short, the shite Barry pulled to get Obamacare through with 60 senators would not work due to the small group of republicans you are concerned with....and the Pubs don't have 60....

Always interesting to read the comments. Given what I think I know about medium.com, I expected mostly plaudits and moaning. What I saw was mostly "you brought it on yourself", and much from people who profess no love for Trump.

I'd like to believe that people are finally waking up to the propaganda.

Congratulations, US media! You’ve just covered your first press conference of an authoritarian leader with a massive ego and a deep disdain for your trade and everything you hold dear. We in Russia have been doing it for 12 years now

Bullfrickingshit... authoritarians rule by decree, and nobody has done it in America quite like Barrack Obama with all his many executive orders at every turn. Get serious. The only reason for the commonality is because both lean far left. Couldn't give less of a shite if I tried.

Expect a lot of sycophancy and soft balls from your “colleagues”

A mainstay of Putin’s press conferences is, of course, softball questions. Which also happen to be Putin’s favorites. Mr President, is there love in your heart? Who you will be celebrating New Year’s Eve with? What’s your favorite food? “Questions” of this sort, sure to melt Putin’s heart
Replace "Putin" with "Obama" and you have the last eight years' worth of reporter fawning.

This post is a contradiction; the journalist is excising free speech just by posting this anti-Putin piece. Frankly, I doubt authenticity.

There's actually some truth here about how trump handles the media. They just need to quit trying to take him down with biased bullshite and report facts. Period. Go back to principled, fact reporting, journalism. Stop being obvious partisan fanboys.

That is, frankly, an excellent article. I laughed and laughed. It's like we're all apart of a witting game. An inside lie. An open secret. I'm glad we can share this with all our countrymen. It's a small room full of great elephants.

Marvelous.

Maybe the media should try that first and see how he responds.

The word "authoritarian" is steadily replacing "racist" for the top spot of words which apparently have no more meaning.

Only of your man is as bad as you say Obama was...if you expect him to be better he will have to do better.

I doubt if many of you expect him to do better as long as he ain't Obama....many of you will even give him a pass if he is substantially worse, as long as he ain't obama....and that is a shame......

I sincerely hope Trump copies Putin in more ways than one.

This was the Flight 93 election, progs, and we stormed the cockpit. There's no going back now.

Give some of them a chance to vote pro-labor (not pro organized labor but pro labor) and given the road map to success that Trump just gave them you are wrong...there are piles of them who will vote with Trump regardless of what the party says to do....on the right issue.

Washington is full of democrats who will vote against the party if the party fails to take the right ideological approach. That is where your analogy falls apart about Obama and the democrats over the last 8 years...there wasn't an ideological schism in the democratic party like there is in the GOP. Mccain and Graham (and I presume a host of other Republicans) are diametrically opposed to Donald Trumps brand of Republican. And keep in mind that McCain was the parties nominee 8 years ago sooooo.....

Name a schism in the Democratic party that is as wide as re-defining our role in NATO, job protectionism, leaving SS and medicare as is....OPPOSING THE INVASION OF IRAQ????? Donald Trump has spit in the face of what the GOP has become since Nixon left office more than any democrat has ever done...because the democrats have been too busy trying to out republican the republicans since Reagan was elected...
