Reagan's cure for disinformation/For those interested in History/Cold War readin

Sounds like a couple of books that would be interesting reads.

quote:

President Ronald Reagan was so impressed by the shocking revelations of top Soviet bloc defector Lt. Gen. Ion Mihai Pacepa – author of a widely read new book titled “Disinformation” – that he altered his foreign policy toward a key communist nation, having been clued in to the clever disinformation campaign that had fooled his predecessor, Jimmy Carter.

quote:

Former CIA Director James Woolsey says of Pacepa’s new book, “Disinformation will change the way you look at intelligence, foreign affairs, the press and much else besides.” The book reveals, among many other things:
•how the Soviet Union played a huge, through unreported, role in instigating worldwide Islamic jihad by translating the notorious anti-Semitic forgery “The Protocols of the Elders of Zion” into Arabic and spreading thousands of copies throughout the Arab-Muslim Middle East;
•how communist disinformation specialists created a narrative that U.S. soldiers were daily committing atrocities in Vietnam, a disinformation narrative picked up and spread by John Kerry, Obama’s secretary of state, when he testified before the Senate Armed Services Committee in the early 1970s;
•how, after the Kennedy assassination, the KGB worked overtime to make Americans believe their own government (the CIA) had been responsible for the shooting;
•how Pope Pius XII, responsible for saving more Jews from the Nazis than anyone else, are praised by everyone from Churchill to Einstein during his life, was turned into a “Nazi sympathizer” through the magic of KGB disinformation.

Watch out, the prevailing opinion on this board is that Reagan was the devil because he wasn't a hardcore libertarian.

What if that entire book is just disinformation about disinformation?

I think the 2016 movie mentioned this book and how the liberal media are now using the same strategies? Or did I see that somewhere else?

He did invent the Obama phone and brought us amnesty with little improved border control...

Reagan was probably the most libertarian president we have ever had.

Jefferson, easily. Even in spite of Embargo acts and LA Purchase.

What? no love for Silent Cal? Although, yeah, Jefferson's probably the correct answer.

Who also would refuse to support ObamaCare and gun control and abortion to some extent, you know, the policies that you've expressed support for.

"We the people. We the people tell the Government what to do. It doesn't tell us."

If you only watch part. Start at 9 minutes.

"Man is not free, unless Government is limited."

It's one of the best farewell addresses ever and I wish I was born a few years earlier to understand and appreciate his Presidency but one really important farewell speech is Eisenhower's.

We have ignored Eisenhower's warnings about the military industrial complex in the worst way possible and look where it got us into today. Our military is basically the world's police department. That shite is not sustainable at all and it's what Eisenhower detested and feared.

I guess we can thank him for increasing the war on drugs too, brilliant success that has been as well.

Couldn't be the people doing them illegally are to blame. Of course not hold individuals accountable for their actions.

But not our government of course... while Ronnie's turning a blind eye to what is going on in Nicaragua somebody from my hometown is the first sentenced to life in prison for selling drugs. Do as I say, not as our government does, right? Henry Manns is the name if you care to fact check.

Beat the commies

Restored the nation's ego

Rebuilt the Navy (though we didn't make it to 600 ships)

Mostly, he just made you feel proud to be an American and that was despite his occasion scandal.
