I was looking on Google Maps at Barksdale and noticed on the right a bunch of what looks to be in ground bunkers. Anyone know what is being stored in those.

The body of Jimmy Hoffa and the dead hookers that Craig James killed.

All of the Cold War era bases have bomb shelters. They are still there at England AFB in Alexandria as well.

Lake Charles would probably be a big target too because of it's oil reserves.

If you are referring to the DOE strategic Petroleum Reserves, there is only one site in the area and it's down in Hackberry. There are bigger reserve sites in Texas.

Barksdale had nuclear weapons during the Cold War. I don't think they do any more.

Barksdale has nuclear weapons specialists still stationed there.

Since the 1st page mentions the Bent Spear incident involving Barksdale AFB, I'll add to the list.

Having significant time in my career in military EOD/civilian UXO... spent some time poking around the woods of NWLA and thought share this Broken Arrow tidbit.

"July 6, 1959/C-124/ Barksdale AFB, Louisiana:

A C-124 on a nuclear logistics movement mission crashed on take-off. The aircraft was destroyed by fire which also destroyed one weapon. No nuclear or high explosive detonation occurred–safety devices functioned as designed. Limited contamination was present over a very small area immediately below the destroyed weapon. This contamination did not hamper rescue or fire fighting operations.(*1; **2)"
