If anything the MSM narrative has been "Putin is smart, not crazy" transitioning to "well, maybe something else is going on."
Small sample, but this is a departure from Putin's conduct in the past. Maybe it'll all come together for him within hours, but at the moment he appears to have put too little into the fight, stretched it too thin and misunderstood the realities that would be encountered on the ground.
We may be dealing with a leader paralyzed between aggression/boldness and not using the full scope of his nation's capabilities because there is no turning back from that. It just doesn't seem very Putin-like to be stuck in the middle of those ideas.

This is just one of their go to insults to delegitimize people. Putin is going to walk away with the chunks of Ukraine that are majority Russian anyway. It's completely logical and they are just blustering calling him insane so they can declare victory when he doesn't take the parts that he wouldn't be able to hold.
