thats the kind of distinction that i think a lot of people struggle with making in their political decisions.

you can believe something without pushing it into regulation.

i mentioned the accuracy issue, but as someone else mentioned, the death penalty is very expensive too. and thats before getting into the moral debate of an eye for an eye.

the dude deserves whatever he ends up getting, but that doesnt mean im into opening up and changing rules to make the worst outcome possible legal. im comfortable with life in prison and keeping the death penalty door closed.

I don't support the death penalty for anyone.

Life in prison is much worse, imo.

It's all academic now, since he blasted his own brains out.

Of course, only after he has his day in court. I mean if anyone deserves it, it's this dude, right? Well, dudes like Bundy & Dahmer obviously did, but this frickface live streamed it. Will you make an exception for this guy?

Nope. Because for every one of guys like this, there's other people that didn't live stream it, and is on death row because the DA was running for re-elected or got kickbacks for the conviction, or prosecuted and convicted even though there was undisclosed exculpatory evidence.

In short, you can't make the criminal justice system perfect. As long as there's the death penalty innocent people will be put into pine boxes having committed no crime.

There's been much worse people than this guy in recent American history. Maybe not much worse as in moral character but much worse as in devastation caused. If those people weren't persuasive enough then this guy isn't either.

Why would the people who oppose the death penalty want it for this murderer? He's not a baby is he?

That's the excuse I use on why murderers should be put to death, their innocent victims are no longer with us because of the murderer's heinous act so why should they get to live as the end result of killing someone else.

I'm against the death penalty because of the heavy costs to tax payers. I'd be all for it if it was the cheaper option (like it should be). It shouldn't cost more to kill a man for his crimes then it does to feed him and house him for life

Is it about suffering as much as possible or getting a sentence that fits the crime? If we just wanted them to suffer, I'd suggest bringing back the rack or some other medieval tortures for some of the most heinousness crimes.

This is close to where I fall. I oppose the death penalty for a number of reasons.

The cost of the process, incompetence of state government, the inequity in the system allowed by wealth, and reversibility of the punishment if it is determined a mistake was made are among them. But the biggest issue I have with it is that is has completely failed as a deterrent, and we can adequately protect society from our worst criminals without it.

in cases like this, where there is no doubt. If arrested the person should be tried quickly and be put to death even quicker. My only problem with the death penalty is it should not be used in cases where it is not known for sure beyond all doubt.

In this case tpos saved us a lot of money by taking care of himself.

The brutality isn't the issue, I just don't think government sanctioned murder is an intellectually honest remedy for non government approved murders. Jmho

Murder is the unlawful killing of another person. To call capital punishment "murder", you have to first establish which law it is breaking.

I believe that taking a life requires a life in return to satisfy the demands of justice. Justice, after all, is the point of punishment for crime. Do you think people living their lives in better shape than most people in Africa or many other places throughout the world is "just" when that person is convicted of killing others? I don't.

So when the state does the killing of the innocent, who gets the chair?

I just don't see how people can have so much faith in the same govt that runs our state to get it right every time and in the federal govt that operates the IRS, VA, TSA, etc.

Sometimes all you can do is take someone off the streets. I don't think there's any "punishing" this dude, he doesn't give a shite if he's put to death and he'd probably thrive in the jungle of prison like the animal he is, lose lose

Don't try to convince me. You'd be wasting your time.

As to your argument, you don't punish an unlawful theft with a lawful theft, or an unlawful rape with a lawful rape. The death penaly is the only law like this.
Flawed men can make anything legal, or illegal can't we? Slavery was one leagl. Does that make it right?

Either killing another person is wrong, or it isnt.
