Looks like His Holiness is finally cleaning house like our President is doing and removing the clogs in the system that were appointed by the old regime. As a proud and faithful Catholic, I'm happy to see more Jesuits being put in positions of authority in the Church. I'd like to hear your thoughts, particularly from fellow Catholics.

After the huge failure by the Academy of bioethics statement on the baby sentenced to death in Britain (euthanasia) I am beginning to think a schism isn't very far off.

I have tried hard to defend this pope and read his texts and teachings, but I am really beginning to wonder how the Holy Spirit inspired his election to supreme pontiff.

I am ready to go back to Benedict.

Definitely not a Roman Catholic but I'm interested to see how this plays out. From all accounts I've read, Francis is a very liberal Pope and Muller was Conservative. If Francis gets more like-minded men into such positions, we might see a very different version of Catholicism by the time the next Pope is elected.

Not our place as Catholics to question it. I mean, if you claim to be a true Catholic, you have to accept Catholic dogma that the Pope is infallible.

this just makes me laugh. an organization tells you not to question the leader because hes infallible and you just do it.

name any other scenario where that would seem like a good idea.

seriously, how fricking stupid do you have to be to play along with this?

The Pope is only infallible when speaking/teaching from the chair of Peter. Ex-cathedra I believe is the technical term. He hasn't done so, in fact it has only been done a small handful of times in our churches history.

More importantly, we are called by the Catechism to have well formed consciences not be sheep unwittingly following any pope.

Apparently you're not. Pope Francis is the successor to St. Peter. Open your copy of the NABRE and re-read Matthew 18:18.

This isn't true, but the OP is unfortunately ignorant about his own faith... And of course you jump right on the bandwagon.

How predictable.

Let us just see how it plays out first. I'd rather the Church not undergo another schism.

Maybe we should have another ecumenical council. Times have changed since Vatican II.

well thats not true

we believe the pope is infallible when speaking on matters of the faith and interpretation of the word of God. not for stuff like who he appoints as congregation members

Well I feel like a dumbass. I believe that's what I was taught in catechism and I haven't really been challenged on it until now. I just looked it up and it seems you're right. Thanks for correcting me on it.

But I'm hopeful and I'd like to see how it plays out. I understand many are not happy with this, but the Catholic Church is more popular than ever now, with many more lapsed Catholics returning to the fold.

And there in lies your problem, you can paint it anyway you want to, but the Pope is just a man, born into sin. Thus he cannot be infallible.
