Sounds like a good deal, as long as it was for life

I'm fine with forgiving their loans up to 50k for them never being able to vote
Please explain the logic behind this. What benefit does the Gov't actually gain by being on the hook for their 50k loan?

If they want more than that forgiven they will have to agree to being sterilized.

I would take it, especially if exclusive to federal elections. I may live in an important swing state, but my vote has such a small chance of tipping my own state, let alone the entire federal election, that it's probably not even worth the time to actually vote, let alone being paid to not vote.

I'd oblige gladly oblige them of this if I were in the government.

POLL: 50% of millenials would give up right to vote for student loan forgiveness
So 50% of millenials are 100% stupid. That sounds about right.

I'd give up my right to vote for $5000. I feel pretty confident in saying that I will never vote in an election decided by fewer than 1000 votes

I'm technically on the edge but still a "millennial", voted for the emperor king, and would give it up my right in a heartbeat.
LSU increased their tuition about 5% every semester after my first and getting a master's has put me and my wife a shite hole with the oilfield they way it is.

quote:The 2016 graduating class had student loan debt over $37,000 on average. Even a 22 year old, will only have an opportunity to vote in about 12 more presidential elections, then that's like be given 3 or 4 thousand dollars every election not to vote on an outcome that a vote would have very little impact on.
So 50% of millenials are 100% stupid. That sounds about right.

Given their liberal views will do more damage in the long term, I'd make that deal for anyone who wanted it.

This is the quintessential example of the old adage, "trading freedom for security."
Way to submit, Millennials. Communism is around the corner (and you won't like it).

Florida in 2000 was one of the slimmest margins in history, and one of the rare times that margin decided the actually election.
The final official difference 537 votes. So one even with all those factors, a single non-voter would have had to choose Gore to tip the election (roughly 50/50 at that), and that vote would still only account for 0.186% of the difference.
That's about the maximum impact that a vote could how ever had on an election, under the most perfect circumstance and assuming a vote that lessened the final margin.

Thank you for breaking it down buckeye, it seems a lot of people in this thread don't see the real intrinsic value of that option haha.
It's not just three to four thousand, you didn't even add the savings on interest lol.
People underestimate the amount of young people swimming in Davey Jones Locker right now.
So if me, a registered republican, lived in Seattle, my vote would never matter. So I now get paid for something that had an original value of 0.
That's why you see that percentage so high.

They'll just vote illegally anyway.

Make them pay what they owe, If they were worth a shite they'd have jobs.
Finding gainful employment and looking/acting like a clown are mutually exclusive. Everyone too scared these days to tell these kids the truth, nobody is going to hire them if they don't conform. Be an individual on evenings and weekends, and away from social media. And don't turn your body into a fricking billboard.

quote:No. It's nothing like that. It's an individual choice, essentially determining whether a commodity (voting) is worth a particular price (loan amount forgiven).

At best, a single vote has a 1 in a million chance of tipping a presidential election, but considering the vast majority of people live in states with far worse odds (California is 1 in 7 billion), then at least for those elections, the value of voting is infinitesimal, especially with a growing population.
