CA, try some of these:LINK Doc Ford, an X spook, gets himself into some pretty tight spots busting crime against evil doers of this nation.

Kinda like John D McDonald's Travis McGee novels.

My latest kick has been Clive Cussler books. They are usually modern enough to be relevant and you know they mirror parts of real life.

It's a great spy kick.

Dirk and Al keeping things honest. But what an utter disappointment the movie Sahara was.

There've been some good recommendations so far (I heartily second "Gomorrah" by Bork). As always in these threads, I recommend a book everyone should read:

"Man, Economy, and State" by Rothbard if you haven't read it yet.

ETA: And if you don't read anything outside your political spectrum, try it. Everyone should.

This sounds interesting. Similarities to the US today?

by David Brinkley.

If you think Washington's disfunction is a recent thing, read on.

have not been reading as much as I used to...

when I went in the hospital a long, long time ago, I read They Tore Out My Heart and Stomped That Sucker Flat by Lewis Grizzard

warm, funny & a relatable story about a hospital trip & recovery - it's a fun, quick easy read & will make you feel better about your situation

good luck & God bless

Nixonland is a great book.

Caro's LBJ series is arguably the most lauded Biography an American author has ever written.

Absolutely! Wait until you read about their disability system. Oh my! Lots of similarities and, quite possibly, foreshadowing.

The most remarkable book I have read in decades is Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand.

It is not political but is historical and is a powerful story.

Second, recommendations: Sharyl Atkisson's 'Stonewalled,' too good to miss. 'The Full Catastrophe: travels among the new Greek ruins,' excellent and accessible book about the Greek debt crisis, immigrant crisis, etc.

And if you want just some 'brain candy,' Southern-style, any of the books in the Miss Julia series by Ann B. Ross.

Thanks CWM! I read Stonewalled awhile ago. Didn't the part that the cable company was used as a front to bug her home--blow your mind? Her husband was a spook. She has a brand new book releasing this June. I often wonder how Sharyl's lawsuit is coming along.

I found this book. It starts out with the details of WJC meeting Lynch on her plane.

Thanks to all for the book suggestions. Thanks themole

I tried a free sample of reading this

And it blew my mind in the first chapter alone they lay out his failures economically. Cash for Clunkers, Solyndra. How on God's green earth could the MSM or anyone wait with baited breath for this man to stutter a word, is truly beyond me. ValJar saying he was scandal free better go down in history as the biggest lie ever uttered into the air. but true.

Thanks so much my surgery is outpatient. Prayers were heard and I was very nervous because my surgeon was on vacation in Cuba and broke his arm. (my surgery was rescheduled) he is much better and performed his first surgery since--yesterday. So I am so- so- so- relieved.

Yes, the entire Stonewalled book was creepy beyond belief. I couldn't believe that it wasn't fiction.

I pre-ordered her new book. Looking forward to it!

And looking forward to hearing any Cuban vacation impressions your surgeon may share as you're going under.

Be well!
