SALEM, Oregon — The Oregon Supreme Court said Thursday that 10 Republican state senators who staged a record-long walkout last year to stall bills on abortion, transgender health care and gun rights cannot run for reelection.

The decision upholds the secretary of state’s decision to disqualify the senators from the ballot under a voter-approved measure aimed at stopping such boycotts. Measure 113, passed by voters in 2022, amended the state constitution to bar lawmakers from reelection if they have more than 10 unexcused absences.

Hmm. In one hand I believe in states rights. In another I believe in the right to free speech expression, on the 3rd hand I believe that senators/representatives work for us, on the 4th hand I believe the republican senators were in fact working for their voters.

It's an easy process to manipulate if you have money, and access to the media. Theo outcome of the vote was probably the result of organized pressure groups, and outside money, pushing people to legalize weed.

I don’t really have a problem with this. I understand and probably agree with their views, but if it was the other way around I would want lib politicians who tried delay tactics like this to pay a penalty as well. Of course, when it goes the other way there never seems to be a penalty.

You can vote for any candidate you want,

as long as their name is on the officially approved ballot.

This is just another way to model America after Nicaragua.

The Supreme Court will get to see this.

Back in the 2010's a large group of Wisconsin dems hid out in Illinois to hold up voting.

Time for a divorce.

Sounds like the court did the right thing. Voters approved the measure. You can hate Portlanders all you want, but they voted for thing, the elected official enforced it, and the courts upheld it.

That's the definition of successful democracy.

I mean is it that hard to show up for work? Every one of us complain about our elected officials not showing up for work. The citizens of Oregon got tired of it and passed an amendment that said missing 10 days means you can't run for reelection.

Liberal or not, this is 100% on the idiots who didn't show up for work.

but they are going back to shite that happened last year when there was no law

So it’s ok for Democrats to pull all their tricks to slow or stop a vote but if a Republican does it, it’s 100% a fireable offense.
