re: One thing the younger generation doesn't get enough credit for

Fine - but you are talking about the younger generation specifically - you are making a generalization on the entire population.

Right

And typically violent crimes are committed by young adults

So the younger generation is in their violent crime prime and crime overall is still down

Want me to draw a fricking picture for you so you can connect the dots on this one?

Advances in DNA may have a little to do with it and possibly the big brother cameras everywhere you go. No-one wants to be caught.

How much do you think DNA advances in one generation?

I don't know. People that resort to violence aren't typically the most rational people.

And I'd have to think that a lot of violence still takes place where there aren't cameras. In homes for instance.

I'm no science expert but probably not.

The amount of inane hypotheses that have come up in this thread is pretty impressive if I might say myself.

Advancements in DNA
Cooking the statistic books (because this could have never happened in the 1990s)
People are too busy playing video games
We're actually too lazy to commit crimes

The stupidity doesn't end in this place

Violence takes an effort. You dumb asses are too busy playing video games and texting each other.

Yeah, young Americans should put down the X-Box controller and start killing each other at higher levels like their grandparents.

Jesus, people on this board are stupid.

Settle down nancy. What about incarceration statistics? You are drawing a conclusion based on a very simple data set. That is your assumption.

I don't think Gen Y or Z are any less violent than previous generations.

But maybe you're right - maybe since your generation can be a bunch of internet tough guys, you don't have to prove how tough you really are.

Most of the data on the subject disagrees with this.

I want to go kill a few people right now but that would involve getting out of bed. No thank you.

Presumably some of the generation Y and Z people aren't in prison yet

So presumably they are still capable of carrying out violent crimes like their ancestors. It's just that they don't do it as frequently.

Odd isn't it?

So what's the status? Are we all officially in denial about crime going down here?

Or is it that crime is going down but because of some other nebulous reason that obviously must be terrible?

Maybe you misunderstood. Not advances from a mutation. Advances in the use of DNA to fight crime or ID a suspect easier.

OK that sounds a little more reasonable

Although I still maintain that people that are violent aren't reasonable and getting caught isn't really on their mind until after the fact

But I'm not violent so maybe I'm wrong.

And we're talking about all violent crimes here. Not just murder which I assume you are alluding to with the DNA evidence. It's not likely that anyone is going to bother messing with DNA over a bar fight or a mugging.

For some of the people, violence is a lifestyle. It's how they were raised. And before I get called a racist, this can represent the LP trash that beat their children because they were beaten by their father.

I don't think it's really all about race

It's about a culture of stupidity that old people are unwilling to let go of

Old people actually think of younger people as "pussies" for not using violence to discipline their children. I mean, what could be more manly than slapping your children around and whipping them? It takes a real man to do that right?

BTW, I wasn't saying you were going to bring up race, but you know how the poliboard is.

Culture has a lot to do with the problems in this country.

Right

And most of our problems are minor thankfully

And our culture is consistently improving over time I think

I've been called all types of things on here by arguing against beating children. Most of them try to insinuate I'm some sort of wimp. Such stupidity.

Right

You're a pussy if you don't use violence to discipline your kids

Really there are 2 groups of people who believe this

1. Old people
2. Stupid people
