Guess if you can't force them to do it on their own, you force them by other means. Thugs in office.

I guess Obama was involved as well in 1992 when the Patent Board also ruled it disparaging? A Federal Court overruled them, and this will be appealed to a Federal Court as well.

I don't have a skin in this fight, so to speak...but it seems the issue comes down to one issue: Do American Indians, en masse, feel the name is disparaging? Not a few vocal political action committees, or a bunch of do-gooder white people.
Do most American Indians feel the Redskins name and logo represent a racial slur?
If they do, then I think the NFL ought to step in.
If they don't, then I think the NFL ought to tell the vocal minority to go frick themselves.
As a middle aged white guy I'm just not going to assume offense for an entire group without asking them first.
