but i think we should keep in the context and timeframe which it was written.... all they had at the time was muzzleloaders... so you should be able to own all the fricking muzzleloaders you want, but nothing else.... ban everything else.
Sooooo.... With this train of thought.
At the time, all the founders had for transportation were their feet and horses. Time to throw out all the cars.
At that time, all the founders had for medicine was the bare minimum and home remedies. Time to throw out all of modern medicine.
At that time, all the founders had in terms of press was either spoken word, or print media sent out very very rarely. Time to throw out all our phones and computers
Deal?

The people that wrote the Constitution weren't stupid. There was weapon development during their lifetime and like I said they weren't stupid, so they knew there would be weapon development in the future. Well regulated in their vernacular means comparably equipped in ours.

This past summer my daughter brought a squirtgun to the pool and another kids parent told my wife it was inappropriate. Found out later they're California transplants. Its asinine to think that's going to fly with Texans but we do live in the political butthole of the state being in Austin ...which is a liberal cesspool. Btw my wife told her to frick off. Couldn't be prouder.

I had guns and kids in my house until I lost them in a tragic boating accident.
The kids have a healthy respect for guns, and know not to mess with them. The don't see guns as an exotic mystery. I also keep them busy, so even if we had guns in the house they would have many priorities on their mind other than messing with guns.
IOW, frick NPR and what they spew.

I think if you have small children in the house and don't have guns locked up, then you're a bad parent. Come at me.
There were a lot of bad parents in the 50s, 60s, 70s when I grew up. My family, both grandparents, all my other relatives, and all of my friends had multiple firearms in the house never locked away, the gun safe is a fairly recent development, don't remember ever seeing one until maybe the 1980s. Often the guns were in a open rack or glass case in the living room. Pickup trucks with gun racks in the back window with a rifle or shotgun were very common even at my high school in the student's parking lot, today they would be calling in SWAT. In my home town I don't recall there ever being a accident, I guess as kids we were raised differently then.

The Second Amendment does not allow you to own guns. It prohibits the government from infringing upon your GOD GIVEN RIGHT to own the tools needed to protect your own life and home from those that would harm you!!

Exactly. Just as the first doesn't guarantee one a platform, or the use of someone else's platform for your speech.
