Just now in interview with Atlantic writer. Thread title is a direct word for word quote, zero paraphrasing. Of course, interviewer was lock step in agreement (it's NPR after all). No challenge, just a bunch of mmm hhhs with continuous leading softball setups to further the agenda.

The new strategy: people have to be shamed into owning guns. They have to be called out personally: you are a bad parent, you are a bad husband or wife, you are a bad neighbor.

Told story of a toddler reaching into mom's purse for a piece of candy and accidentally shooting himself with mom's gun.

Said these incidents need to be targeted and used in a campaign to change people's minds on the idea of owning a gun. The goal is to change the mindset that guns make you safer. Gotta change that to guns make you and your loved ones more dangerous. And you have to name and shame people.

My parents had (and still have) about 20 guns in the house I grew up in. And my parents are outstanding people that I greatly admire.

More leftist propaganda. These people don't know guns, they don't understand them, and they're ignorant of everything encompassing them.

they do have a point. Suicide and accidental deaths make up the large number of firearms deaths in this country. However, a responsible parent doesnt give their kids access to firearms.

Good.

They need to keep it up.

In fact, they need to say that everyone with kids and a gun in their house should have their children taken away and should be executed.

NPR gets like 2% from the government. It won't do a thing.

eta: if you don't keep your guns safely in a house with children you are a bad parent. I would imagine most people with guns take gun safety seriously, I sure do. But if you don't and you have kids, you are a terrible parent.

People that are open about guns and teach their children about guns, don't have problems, because there is no mystery.

Hiding them, locking them up, being secretive about them, it what causes problems.

I grew up with guns all over the place, but I was taught gun and hunter safety at a young age and my dad would kick my arse if he saw me point even a toy gun at someone.

Suicide, yes. It's 2/3rds

Accidental, not so much.

This from the same people that will force you believe that children raised in a home with a man that thinks he is a woman is totally acceptable and should be praised.

This is like the 4th thread on NPR stuff today. Do y’all seriously sit around and watch things you know are blatantly against your political views so you can get pissed at it and bring it here to vent?

Holy shite. If you have a gun in a place that a toddler can find it and shoot themselves, you should go to jail for negligence, manslaughter, and win an award for being a total and complete idiot. Gun safety is important and responsible gun owners realize that.

Same here except we weren't even allowed to have toy guns because my parents never wanted to link "guns" and "toys". It was overkill but I respect their methods and I can't argue with the outcome.

I have only met a handful of gun owners that were not serious about gun safety. Of course, the ones I met were reckless. frick, I was at a mardi gras party and a dude pulled out a gun at the party to show his friends. Drink in one hand, gun in the other.

When I was 9 I accidentally shot my 16 year old brother in the back of the head with a BB gun. I could tell he wanted to beat my arse so bad because of it, but he just quietly walked away and had a look of pure shame on his face. I knew I had fricked up bad. It was pure disappointment from him. I learned a lot that day about not fricking around with guns. He yelled at me pretty bad later and made sure I understood the severity of the situation.

Damn, this sets up a real conundrum. Which to lose in a boating accident? The guns or the kids?

This board is always so fricking stupid with thread titles about media organizations. You even wrote that it was anAtlantic writer being interviewed by NPR who actually said this. So it wasn't even the NPR reporter who said it. Even if it was, the thread title should be NPR reporter, insert name, said... not NPR as if they as an organization issued an editorial. You people keep generating fake stories like this. Someone will make a thread that says CNN says Trump is White Supremacist. In reality CNN interviewed some angry black blm supporter from Compton who said it.

God, seriously this is basically generating fake news.
